What is the right music for the morning?

There was an interesting piece on the Radio 4 Today program yesterday, following on from the day before when they had played a piece of Jazz by Archie Shepp ‘Attica Blues’.  After which John Humphrey’s commented that 'it was not the right music for a morning'. What type of music do you play in a morning and do you think there is any right & wrong type to play.

Regards Graham.

The right type to play is The Beatles "Good Morning, Good Morning". The wrong type to play is The Beatles "Good Night".

I really hate music - all music - in the morning (ie first two or three hours after getting up). Which is why I always listen to Radio 4.

R4 through the week and 'Bossa Nova Breakfast' on internet radio for an hour or two at the weekend before starting on the collection.

Well work mornings it's Radio 4 in the car the Today programme until some moaning do-gooder winds me up then I switch off before my mood turns such that I'd be impossible to work with. Saturday I tend to listen to Saturday Live on Radio 4,  Sunday mornings I often have a classical session when I'm in a very good mood.

Each to his own. While preparing breakfast, I turn Internet Radio on to 'Brasilia Super Radio', a very domestic station that broadcasts mainly old orchestral hits' covers from the 50s and the 60s. It leaves my brain substantially unused but allows me the basic faculties I need.

Later I am ready for 'music'. Or, for that, for the world.

Brian Matthew's Sounds of the 60s usually works for me on a Saturday.

Bukovina Club (Balkan brass) at 1030 on the dial works a treat to get the teenagers out of bed for school on weekdays... speeds up the breakfast cooking too..
