Hi Guys,
My ReadyNas Duo lived upstairs connected via Power-lines but now I want to keep it closer to my Unitiqute.
At the moment it's connected to my NetGear Router and of course the Qute is connected to my router as well.
Ideally i'd like to install some Ethernet cable from my PC,so I can send files to my NAS, to my router but there are no more empty sockets on the back of my router.
My question is can I get an Ethernet adaptor which would take Two Cables or am I going down the wrong route here.
I would need a large amount of Ethernet cable and I'm not too sure what cable to buy. I am ware another thread on here regarding Cat7 vs Cat6 and I'm a bit confused to be honest but basically I want good cabling without the high price.
I was even thinking of routing the Ethernet cable outside down the front of my house and back into my lounge !
Cheers..

You need a network switch, do a search on amazon. Get a gigabit one.
work out the amounts of sockets you need then double it!
place the switch in as convenient place for the other devices to connect to it and it to the router. For me that was the loft.
there is no configuration required, everything will talk to each other plus you have extra sockets.

One other thing, cat5e is still the industry standard and is perfectly good for your needs now and in the foreseeable future, a better quality cat5e can be got for around 59 quid a roll which is about 320 m

If you're not confident in terminating network cables yourself, you may want to consider buying pre-made lengths of, say, CAT5e cable. Take a look at any reputable online IT supplier for examples (I use ebuyer).

One way to extend a network is to daisy chain a 2nd router with DHCP disabled.
Two 4 port routers connected together give you 6 usable ports.

The best/easiest thing to do is buy switches (not routers). Just plug and go. You can daisy chain switches as well. I recommend the best cable you can afford within reason. Get a small switch close to the Qute and a short lead of audio quest cinnamon on that. The rest can be Cat 6 or 7. I'm lucky enough that the del line comes in the downstairs right underneath the media set up in the living room, so the modem, switch and vortex box live below and drilled a hole through the floor (it's an old house) for ethernet cables to go up. Shielded Cat 7 made a difference for the Roku box on the TV (vs cheap big box cat 6) and the Cinnamon on the Qute.
I also have a 30 ft lead of outdoor rated terminated Cat 6 to run from the switch to the upstairs outside the house. Next year's project.
