I thought Ms Reader's personality - at least on the evidence of this show - was just as irritating as her music Tony. She didn't seem to be able to let anyone else get a word in. On a panel of politicians, that is some feat.

I certainly wish the Scots good luck, they'll need it if they gain independence and they are stuck with the Slippery Salmond as leader!

True - but that wouldn't last forever. Means to an end perhaps.

I am struggling to understand why so many "English" feel so threatened. Personally I would be more worried about the lack of support for Labour within the balance of England. But so be it if that's how the vote goes.

I doubt that that it will happen because of the way "referenda" are manipulated in practice.

Trouble is it's not really any kind of independance the scots will get is it?

There has never been a Scottish majority in favour of independence. Not for hundreds of years and the next 10 months won't change that.

A pointless distraction which, by their jaded performance on the last 2 outings, Salmond and Co seem to recognise already.

I don't see any form of independence as envisaged by Salmond & Co as workable.   It’s too involved to attempt to summarise in these pages but to me is epitomised with the assumption they can continue with the GB Pound.  This is just ridiculous & it just seems to sum up how much joined up reality thinking has been put into this proposal.

The fiasco that was the Eddie Reader performance was frankly shameful & I am at a loss to understand what she was babbling on about or what side gained from her contribution.

One point that did come out of last night’s discussion was the division & obvious inadequacy of the UK political model.  I fully sympathise with the fact that Scotland has no elected tory MP’s in Westminster but has a tory government.  It seems to me the whole of the UK is divided in a similar & unacceptable way that will always alienate some geographic area or other; some areas of the south have never elected a labour MP,  ditto areas of north England never elect a tory,  we would not have had a labour government in some elections in the past if it wasn’t for the Scottish labour count, then why bother voting for SNP in Westminster.

It seems obvious to me that one area or other is imposing its political preferences on others with little hope of getting your preference in government in some cases.

I would have hoped that Cameron could have seen this as an opportunity to fix the Westminster head count & what to do with the Lords problems & come up with a counter proposal that would realign the whole UK political model.

Scotland, Wales & N.Ireland all have their own parliaments, not so England.

Why not have an English parliament along the same lines as the others & give all these regional parliaments some expanded responsibilities & then add a UK central federal parliament.

'Devo-Max' we call it and I consider it the most likely outcome from the fall-out from the inevitable 'no' vote.

The whole of the UK should be allowed to vote on the split up of the UK into its constituent parts.

The "yes" vote would soar.

We then would not have MPs from Scotland being allowed to vote on matters that are only relevant to England.

We also need much more same sized constituencies in the country - my MP has twice as many people in his area as do some urban MPs  - why this could only be valid if the number of votes an MP could cast in Parliament is proportionate to the number of eligible voters that he / she represents.

OK, here goes:

Scottish independence is a catastrophe in waiting, driven by the need of that supercilious **** Salmond to crown himself king.

Oh, and it's not Scottish oil it's British oil so bugger off Salmond and take that ****  Sean Connery with you.

And relax,

The UK , greater by far than the sum of its parts.

NO MORE LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT FerFookssake

Arfur,

My Grandmothers milkman left Scotland for pastures new many years ago. Seems he is in favour of an Independent Scotland , but probably will not return and pay the exorbitant tax rates.

As a migrant Scot, who moved south , I do not agree with Independence. Watching the SNP woman say she wants complete independence for Scotland except for the Pound as currency. Did not seem to Understand that the UK Govt and Bank Of England will set interest rates and this would directly impact upon the Independent Scotland. Also she believed that the E U would welcome Scotland into its fold. Ask the Spanish Govt about this. They have no desire for Catalan and Basque independence.

The SNP vision is fantasy land. Scotland with the SCROTE as its currency could find 100 Scrotes to the Euro or even , due to the VAST OIL RESERVES they believe still are in the North Sea, 1 Scrote is worth 25 Euros.

As someone living in England I would like an English Parliament so that England could have the Govt it elects without the Scots Welsh and N.I. imposing their political desires upon us.

So we would / could possibly have :

Labour :         Scotland, Wales and N.I.

Conservative :  England

I have watched a few other debates care of You Tube and am so confused as to what the reasons for the so called desire for an independent Scotland. I think it is nuts. But as I no longer live there my opinion counts for NOUT

Wasn't there a poll by one of the papers a short while ago which included English voters? The overwhelming majority was then for Scottish independence! Perhaps Salmond should be canvassing south of the border...

Yes but does salmond really want true independence? Seems to me he wants his version of it.

Not getting into the politics of it, but I believe that Scotish independence will come, if not this time round then next. Personally, I don't see why it would not work and the move for regional independence in various countries is gaining more support, all be it slowly, in all parts of Europe and elsewhere. Due, mainly to people seeking an 'identity' in fear of identity erosion through mass immigration, religious tensions etc, etc, etc.

The EU would fall head over heals for it In my view. If they get it, then good luck to Scotland I say.

Jason.

Nicola Sturgeon.....brilliant!  Taking on and absolutely demolishing the recently appointed "bulldog" Scottish Secretary (by Mr Cameron) to bring a "more bruising style" to the debate.  Eaten alive!

Jim,

that is not how I saw the program.

Nicola was on Question time as well and in my opinion did not do well.

Scotland Independent I believe will be like Switzerland. In Europe but not part of EU.

certainly if the Spanish have anything to do with it their application to join the EU will be done in the same way as all new membership countries.

On the matter of currency. How can an independent Scotland influence the Bank of England to have pro Scottish policies in banking and money matters. The Bank of England Is for the UK not independent countries outside of the UK.

I thought Nicola came over as bully. Also on the subject of cuts Scotland ii believe gets 1500 pounds per person more than the rest of the UK citizens. So if they leave how will Scotland make up that shortfall once the funding from UK is gone. Scotland will have to raise this from its own citizens.

On the matter of Scotland getting a tory govt. HMMMM well the UK citizens voted in a Coalition Govt. Scotland as usual voted in a Labour Govt. England would prefer to be Conservative. But because Scotland Wales and NI usually vote labour then England does not get the Govt it voted for.

Many articles in the press in England are along the lives of Scotland Go For It. England will no longer have to subsidise your Socialist policies out of England taxes.

Also it has been said that there could be a migration of over 500,000 Scots to UK from the new independent Scotland.

Also how many jobs in Scotland are UK Govt jobs. All these would move back to UK, Wales and England most likely. So thousands of jobe will be lost. The Military contracts for Scottish factories would revert to UK factories so many more jobs lost in that  too.

Interesting times.

David,

Alastair Carmichael was absolutely bullied by Nicola Sturgeon, which is quite ironic given that Alastair Carmichael was brought in as a"political bruiser".  A bruiser?  The poor man was absolutely out of his depth and looked like he wanted to cry.

I posted this simply as I found it amusing to watch the new bully being chewed up and spat out by another politician who was on top of her game in this "debate".

Loki,

Unless Google Translate does Gaelic I have no clue what you wrote.  Now if it was in good old fashioned Doric then it would be fine! :-)

Cheers

In essence 'we all have the right to state our view without discrimination or prejudice', whether exiled Highlander, Norse god or sassenach. Lcation isn't important, it's just a point from which to view.
