Problem accessing my music on my NAS through Unitiserve

Posted by: Richard Choong on 11 December 2013

Guys, I need your help. I was trying to add a new network share last night and I must have done something (don’t know what) because now, I can’t access my music that was ripped by the US any more.

This is the background:

Equipment:

Superuniti
Unitiserve and Synology D213+ for ripping and streaming

MAC OS 10.9

On my Synology NAS, I have a folder “NaimRips”. This is where my music is (my music is fine. I checked).

The IP address of my NAS (which I name as HOMENAS) is 192.168.0.102.

The IP address of my US (NSSRV86E4) is 192.168.0.109.

The “Network Share” screen does not show any link to my “NiamRips” folder.

The music store shows: \\HOMENAS\NaimRips but shows the status as red (I am guessing this is the problem).

No issues with using my US to access internet radio.

Ok. So now you have the background. Can someone tell me what do I need to do to rectify the problem?

Help is much appreciated.

Have you done something to assure that the ip addresses don't change?  The first thing that comes to mind is that the IP address of your nas has changed, and your uServe doesn't know it.

I'd start with shutting everything down.  The boot up the nas.  Then the uServe.

(I think that's the right order in which to do this.)

Ok. Tried that. No go. It shows the state of the share as "offline" How do I get it online?

Just a thought, have you confirmed that HOMENAS resolves to 192.168.0.102 either via your hosts file, netbios or DNS. If not you might want to use the IP address in the share rather than the host name, ie \\192.168.0.102\NaimRips

Have you checked the access and user permissions of the share?

I did check  them and they are all good.

I decided to try removing all my music stores and network shares and added them manually.  I managed to get the US to see the folder "NaimRips" but it shows up on the network share as being offline (with a red light) despite the NAS being connected. I have not promoted it to a music store yet as the US keeps telling me there are no network shares online (duh!).

So what do I do next?  This is getting really frustrating and it shouldn't be this hard.

Anyone wants to come to my place and work this out for me? I pay good money!

Oh and I live in Singapore not in the UK. heh.

But seriously...what do I do next? I want my music!!!

... perhaps drop a line to Phil Harris, who can log in to the U/S and see what's up.

The Naim workgroup thing was what tripped me up when I first tried to set up my system two years ago.  It was then a post by Allen that set me straight

Guys - thanks for all your suggestions. I have tried done all of the above and still no joy.

I was told by the dealer to set the NAS music folder to "disabled". Only then US will se the NAS as online? To me it also seems like the IP adress should be set to fixed, but don't know how to tådo that.

I'm not there yet to try this out.

All,

I just wanted to thank everyone who provided input on my problem.

I have good news! It's solved. So what was the problem? Well, as it turns out, for some reason, the US wasn't "talking" to the NAS because the NAS wasn't recognising how the US presented itself as a "guest". On my NAS (Synology), I allowed guest users but for some unexplained reason, despite the fact that it my NAS used to recognise the US. It decided not to anymore. The simple solution was to create  a user on the NAS and input that username and password when setting up the shares on the US. That immediately solved the problem.

I am not happily listening to all my music and demoing as NAP 250.2 with my SU! Oh and having some 25yo Bowmore! Heaven!
