External USB drive not recognised on power up

Just a niggling fault but..

I use a 1Tb USB drive on my Laptop running Asset. Asset points to this and DBpoweramp rips to this. I leave it switched on and just the screen powers down for power management. On the very rare occasion that i power it down and power back up, windows doesnt recognise / access the drive it shows but you cant see whats in it, . I can resolve easily it by unplugging the drive and plugging it back in, restart asset and everything is ok. Am running windows 8 and the drive is a licie USB powered from the USB port. Is there a setting i need to change. Not a problem really , just a niggle

Any ideas.. maybe a faulty drive that i need to replace. I have all my cd rips backed up on the internal hard drive just in case
