Album Info incorrect when seen via n-Stream App & unable to change it.

Posted by: deepinsight on 28 December 2013

Hi,

I've got a UnitiServe which has ripped over 500 of my CDs and has got the correct album information and artwork for each one.

When I use my iPad with the n-Stream app ( all latest versions ) I connect to the NDX and select IPnP input then UnitiServe from the available sources ( others being NAS drives and a PC ).

I then select CD Collection (local storage on the UnitiServe) , the other choices being "Browse by Device" (this gives me a particular directory served by the MediaServer on the (synology DS213) NAS store and "All Music" (this being both amalgamated).

Having selected CD collection and viewed this By Album I can see all of the UnitiServe ripped albums with the correct album info and artwork.

When I select one to play  ( tap on the album, then on the play symbol top centre ) and click on the symbol like an atom in the top right hand corner it flips the display over and shows me information about the album. There is an 'Info' button in the lower right hand corner and if I click on this it usually brings up lots and lots of information about the album in a booklet form which I can then leaf through.

Excellent !!

However - it sometimes brings up the incorrect album details ( and these are often way off !!).

There is a button in the top left hand corner of this pane that says, "Not this album?". Clicking on this loads some information about other 'likely' choices. Again these can be way off !!

Most times the alternatives offered are not the album that the UnitiServe has correctly identified and stored ( I assume this is now using some other lookup source for the metadata).

Question is - how do I get the correct information for the album I've selected.

An example of this issue can be seen using Peter Hurford's album - at this point I go back to the album view on the iPad using n-Stream and it is now only showing me 4 albums [another issue] -

this is from the cddbinfo.txt file created bu the UnitiServe when it ripped the album:

When you press 'not this album', you'll get the drop down list. If you pull the list down a little, you'll see a search bar. This happened on about 5 of my 2,000 ripped albums, and once sorted out in nStream it seems to be fixed for good. Heaven knows why it happens, when the correct album shows in nServe. Anyway, this is how you fix it.

Well dinky doo - who'd'a thought it !!!

Perfect response and solution Oh Fish One.

That was beginning to bug me, but as always there is a way ... somewhere.

Thanks.

Great. It's good when these little irritations are dealt with.

When you hit that i button in nStream, it is trying to match the album to an online database that is not owned or controlled by Naim.  Nothing to do with metadata, the rip, etc etc -- it's a deficiency in the online database that can cause the info not to be found, to be wrong, etc.  Although I use this feature, I generally find the information in Wikipedia, especially about 'classic' albums, to be more interesting.

Any idea what database it is (although Rovio does ring a bell), or indeed if an different database can be selected ( the AMG one used by the UnitiServe for the metadata would seem to be a good start point?

It is interesting the the database being used has no information about the Peter Hurford Toccata (Argo) album.
