I said,

"Would you wish to increase my enjoyment of this piece of music"

"Yes. of course."

"Please turn it down."

"Is that better, sir."

"Yes, better, but there is room for improvement. Please turn it off!"

Off it went!

PS: I was then respected customer for LPs. Madness, I do realise!

Hah! Good one! I can only imagine how thrilled they must have been to accommodate your wants.

Does that include the bagpipes?

Of course not.

I've always thought the sound of bagpipes on a distant hill sound wonderful.....and the more distant the hill, the more wonderful the sound.

I was cycling through the park a few months ago. There was a guy playing bagpipes. Unfortunately, I was by myself, and had no-one to whom I could say "Quick, stop that guy! He's strangling a goose!".

Dear Joe,

I was friendly with all the staff in that shop. Later i bought my very first Sony system from them - a TT, integrated amp and pair of speakers from them.

In reality that story was often retold to other customers as a way of teasing me!

Somehow life was simpler and more fun in those days. I doubt if shop staff would dare to tease [or tolerate being teased] as we used to those thirty and more years ago. Everyone is so poe-faced nowadays and so quick to take personal offence also ....

Political Correctness, which should be abolished.

People are free to take offence, and so they do, but they should remember that no offence was meant when only mild teasing was the intention.
