Apologies if this question has been asked before, but despite numerous search strings I have failed to find It.
I have just purchased and downloaded the Charlie Haden / Chris Anderson album in 24 bit 192kHz FLAC format. However, when I opened Windows Explorer to drag it into the Downloads folder of the NS01, the NS01 didn't show up as a storage device on the network. It is, however, shown as a media device, so it is there on the network, just not as a storage device. Also the NDS finds it OK to playback ripped CDs.
I have shut down the NS01 and rebooted it. And I've done the same to the PC, but nothing has changed: the NS01 still won't show as a storage device on the network.
Does anyone have ideas clue as to what's happening?

Windows issue. Explorer is quite bad at discovering devices on the network.
You can map the Download folder to a specific driver letter (typing the full path (\\IP address\Download )
You will want to reserve your NS01 IP Address in the Router or better set it as static to keep it always the same.
You can also use an IP Scaner software to ''see'' all your network devices and explore them.
BUT your dealer should help you with that...

Thanks, Manu. I think you are right, definitely a Windows Explorer issue. Having closed and reopened that application a number of times and waited for it to scan the network each time, eventually it found the NS01.
That's a good idea about fixing the network address. I have a lousy Internet connection at the best of times and am frequently having to restart the router which often reassigns IP addresses, which then requires a reboot of the server. I will speak with my Naim Audio dealer.
Thanks for your speedy reply.

Do I understand you are using your ISP modem as a router as well? if this is the case go buy a dedicated router. Many modem\router are quite lite in routing features. And if you have to reset your modem,... your addresses will not change...

Is the ns01 defo set up with a downloads folder, i thought that was just the 2tb version of the serve.
as for network discovery, I find windows just totally crap, on win seven it frequently fails to see a couple of servers on my lan, sticking in their ips and it pops striaght up.

My win7 has no problem seeing my ns01 1 tb version, and my nas. Remember that the ns01 will show up under Network, if you open Explorer you should open Network and then your ns01 should show up.
Maybe you have to enable upnp on your modem/router? this will ensure that upnp devices are discovered automatically. Upnp may or may not be turned on by default.
You can also try to open the name for the server directly. The naim is on the last line in the dtc window. e.g.
\\NS018B7A
My guess is that this name is inique for my server, but I am not sure.

Thanks for all your comments, guys. As I reported earlier, the problem did kind of resolve itself. I am sure that Manu hit the nail on the head - that Windows Explorer is not so hot at network scanning. I should point out that this was a new problem. I had previously filed downloads into the downloads folder of the NS01 (which is a 2TB version btw). I am using Win7 too. It's a good idea to open a separate window //ipaddress/downloads - I shall try to remember that next time it refuses to show under 'Network'.
Happy new year to you all.
