HDX Backup

Posted by: itnerd on 30 December 2013

Just downloaded HDX manual and it seems that the use of the 2nd disk to back up the 1st has been discontinued. I've had the unit for years and an now a bit alarmed to think that if a disk failed it would requires weeks of re-ripping!

Software Version 1.7a + SP1

There is an indication in the manual version 7Fof using an external hard drive to backup - can I connect USB drive to USB port on HDX?

Are both hard drives now in series - giving twice the original capacity?

I don't know about the workings of your HDX's hard drives, but for an external backup you want to put it on your home network (which I assume it is), and get a nas to back it up to.  It does not support backing up to a directly connected usb drive.

No need to worry, if you own a version of the HDX with two hard discs - say 2x 400GB - the unit will continue to backup your music to the second disc...

I simply attached a Network Attached Storage drive to my home network (as mentioned above) set it as a back-up for the HDX and Bob's your uncle.

A good idea to have more than one back-up anyway and NAS drives are so cheap, you may as well do it anyway!

The first back-up is likely to take rather a long time (several days for 900 CD's)

Thank you all for help.

I can now see from System Info that I have 2 500mb disks D & E and E is still backing up D. It was the section in the manual that threw me into a panic.

Will use an external USB hard drive via network too.
