Many years ago I've purchased this CD after I've attended the CSO premier of Andante Festivo.

Bummer that somehow I have scratched this CD and there is a clicking noise through out the tune.

Here Sibelius himself conducts the Andante Festivo in Jan. 1 '39 Broadcast. It's the only recording of the composer conducting his own work. It is inspiring piece of music like many of his scores but not over the top. It reminds me a bit of Barber's Adagio but less depressing and more uplifting.

Dear Kuma,

This Andante Festivo is spine tingling for me. A real raiser of the hairs on the back of my neck!

I remember that years ago I managed to record this from the radio, in a much better sonic than this youtube film. I eventually converted the TDK SA 90 tape to CD and this is now safely in iTunes, and gets a regular airing here! [While correcting this, I have just looked it op to play again in a few seconds!].

It amazes me that this is the sole example of the great Sibelius conducting his own music that we can listen to today. But we can be glad that his close friend Robert Kajanus recorded Symphonies One, Two, Three and Five as well as Tapiola and several smaller pieces for the English Columbia Company and HMV in the years 1930, and 1932. These have not only the approval of the composer himself as recordings, but the approval of the composer for the conductor, whom he described as the most natural of musicians in "my"  music. These recordings were paid for by the Finnish government, and the conductor chosen by Sibelius himself.

A similar [and rather rare nowadays] shimmering intensity and gravitas that is unsentimental is as apparent in Kajanus's recordings as here in the sole recording made of Sibelius himself conducting!

Thanks for pointing out this marvellous music and performance!

Dire Straits. Making Movies. On vinyl from 1980. From a creative perspective not the most artistic album cover, yet from a marketing perspective it certainly gets your attention and provides an unmistakable search image. As far as the contents; the music is quite nice with top notch SQ.

Because there's nothing like squelchy synths on a wet Saturday morning, is there?

Fain

Fain by Wolf People on Spotify. Can't listen on the UQ2 until I get the CD next week to rip. Great Folksy Rock. Think I first heard then on the Epileptic Gibbon podcast.
