"I've PLayed Every Toilet". Fascinating BBC Radio 4 documentary on the UK "toilet" circuit, hosted by John Harris, on iPlayer:
I listened to this the other day on Radio Four. A fascinating glimse into Pop and Rock culture for sure.
Perhaps some of the bands who were catapulted to fame on the back of the toilet circuit might care to contribute to maintaining the future existence of the circuit?
Or possibly that is too much to hope ...

Well indeed George. The owner of the excellent Forum in Tunbridge Wells hinted that Muse (who played some early gigs there) might like to contribute something...
He also said that one big stadium gig by a mega-band could maintain the entire toilet circuit for a year!
I am biased as I am liking the playing of Alexandre a lot. But I think this CD has too much variation in style so it's all over the place. So if you want to get into Alexandre I would recommend you to get the below set. Unless you like an adventure then this one can also be good - but it's overall less exciting from a playing perspective.

Thanks.
He'll be making a CSO debut 2014/2015 season playing Couperin and Rameau amongst others.
Couperin
Rameau
Satie
Ravel
I'll going to try to get a ticket to go see him. Maybe he's better live than a CD.
Kuma,
He is looking far better live than in his cardboard poses on the album covers. I might join you to see him if you invite me to dinner...
I have quite a few of his recordings of which I like best Chopin's Waltzes, Bach's Italian concertos and Ravel's complete piano music (two CDs). His Rameau is disappointing and he is completely out of his elements playing swinging music on "Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit".

Dear Kevin,
Perhaps Muse, Coldplay, et al, don't want the competition of new entrants?
Cynical, moi?

This sounds so good - Original 1st press vinyl.

This, on BBC Radio 4 FM:

Dear Kevin,
Radio Four is rather good, isn't it!

Love it George. I usually have it on all the time if I'm not listening to music. Get rid of the embarrassingly unfunny weekday "comedies" and the depressing "Gardeners' Question Time" and it would be darn near perfect...
I have it on always when not listening to music!
You don't have to agree with everything to realise the quality and depth of the offering.
Radio One is the exact opposite!

I quite like some of the comedies ![]()
I do find the comedies less compelling than the more serious aspects of Radio Four nowadays, but then I am allowed to turn gradually into Discontented of Tunbridge Wells at my age!

What, even HR, North By Norfolk, Making The Best of It, 55 & Over, Ayres on the Air and other 11.30AM horrors Sorren?
That said, Ed Reardon's Week is the best comedy on the radio and Clare in the Community is stlll pretty good. And most of the 6.30PM stuff is excellent.

It's the 6:30 stuff I like to be honest, especially the friday night programs. I rarely hear the earlier ones.

Another BBC Radio 4 doc which I just caught on iPlayer, an hour before it was due to be deleted. "Black Liberace", a superb doc by Joe Boyd on the remarkable New Orleans pianist James Booker.

I had prepared another post for this thread but it's been referred for review by the moderators...
Perhaps you're not allowed to report that you've been enjoying 'Apocalypse' by the Mahavishnu Orchestra through Naim equipment!
Riffs of brutal, crunching simplicity. Nihilism. Gleeful embrace of nuclear annihilation. What's not to like? It's the Joke's first album, from 1980, on vinyl:
