Siri's Svale Band's second album necessarily so... A CD on Sonor Records. A friend got this for me but had to contact the company in Trondheim, Norway and order from them directly. Excellent recording, very much like their first album Blackbird

The glorious Stevie W on CD. This is a first class recording, the backing vocals in particular having real presence.

Boring, boring boring...

At least the vinyl copy does not have the bright distortion of later digital remaster CD.

My favourite version of this album. Beautifully smooth and seductive.

Not certain if Barenboim was mature enough to tackle this one. I do feel that the Bruckner's 9th requires certain amount of maturity or life's experience to get the insights out.

As his usual the whole music is handled very legato with no sense of urgency or drama. Lack of bottom end on this DG's 70s vinyl does not help but this also does not have much of tensions or *ma* through the score in that the long phrasing does not carry much of meaning or impact. Particularly on Scherzo coming off utterly superficial.

I am still waiting for a *kick arse* Barenboim set and this certainly ain't it.

It's a Gil Scott Heron evening on vinyl.

And now ...

Couperin

I'll going to try to get a ticket to go see him. Maybe he's better live than a CD.

I have quite a few of his recordings of which I like best Chopin's Waltzes, Bach's Italian concertos and Ravel's complete piano music (two CDs). His Rameau is disappointing and he is completely out of his elements playing swinging music on "Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit".

Haim,

Thanks for that. I am not at all familair with Couperin or Rameau so this might be a good opportunity to get myself into their music.

I remember you calling him *ironing board* man

It is usually a spectacular failure when a classical piano player tries to be *cool* and do jazz and swings but Thibaudet's Evans cover isn't bad. Have you heard it?

Love you to join me for the concert and after dinner. Good news is that CSO actually will have a great piano recital programs next season. Hope to catch Perahia this year.
