Pearl Jam
Whenever I listen to Pletnev play, I always am left with a sense of wonder afterward. Technically unstoppable combined with a brilliant mind. If you listen to what he does it really is special. Things you would never have known otherwise and he just brings things to light in such a nonchalant, straightforward fashion like it is so natural or easy to do so yet impossible to duplicate.
Easily one of the best living pianist around.

Doug,
This is the only Pletnev I have:

What other particular performance would you recommend?

Professionally done. Polished as later Reiner/Cliburn but I much prefer this version due to Gilel's masterful interpretative skills and Reiner actually working with a soloist rather than making the score *Reiner hours*.
What other particular performance would you recommend?
Haim,
His Carnegie Debut Live CD is pretty good.

But hard to imagine you like his style tho. But every one of the piece in that CD is just about breath taking.
I also have his Mozart Piano Concerto No.20 ( Pletnev as a conductor ) and love it but if you like Uchida school of Mozart, you'd hate it.
I think he's very talented and one of the best in the trade but having been linked with a 14 year old boy rape case gives me a pause a bit in spite his enormous talent.

Gee Haim, it's tough to recommend any one when I have such a good view of most of his recordings. Just coming off the Chopin and with the Etudes, Waltzes, and the rest that leaves me so thrilled. His "In Person" on Onyx is really good with the exception of the Schubert.
I like his Tchailkovsky, Grieg, Schumann, Rachmaninov, CPE Bach, Liszt, Carnegie Hall and the Scarlatti you have too. Let me think about it for a while but if you like repertoire that is a little off the beaten track then maybe I'd start with the Tchailkovsky, CPE Bach or the Grieg?
Hi Larry,
I'm looking forward to Beck's new release in a week or two. I'm going to get the vinyl.

Rubinstein lets it rip even with a few slips of the keys. Played with such a gusto and flamboyant.
