Great concert at the Brixton Academy(one of my favourite venues) back somewhere in the late 80s'.

Listening to the No.28 Sonata again.

Never paid much attention to it before but I am enjoying it. Particularly the 1st movement is lovely. Beethoven marked it as "Somewhat lively and with innermost sensibility" and Pollini does a great job interpreting it.

I agree Bunbury, I started playing it again recently its a really good album and continues to grow.

What format do you two have? I love his first two LPs on vinyl and this one has been on my radar while digging second hand . Seems the vinyl is all but impossible to find at a rational price.

I have mine on CD Joe, picked it up off Amazon S/Hand. The SQ is very good imo.

Yet another Haskil Mozart No.20 & 23. This is a decent Mercury mono altho so far the best sounding Haskil Mozart is the Philip pressing with Markevitch.

Pollini's Beethoven No.28 Sonata. Not as funky as his later sonata, but actually there is a lot going on and playful than I remember. Thoughtful and sensibly played. Pollini leaves no ambiguity for sure.

Kuma,

Richter along the Chicago Symphony are more powerful and energetic but Arrau shines in the third 'andative' movement. I grew up with Richter so I am partial.

Are you getting more snow like we are?

That's a Grammy winning famous Richter Chicago debut concert but I wasn't too enamoured with it. In spite all that glitter and pyrotechnics, Richter maintains a distant and reticent.

So not too difficult to think Arrau's Andante wins you over. If I remember Ricther's 3rd movement had this surreal Ravel's La Valse like ominous mood.

I thought you were a *Gilels* man.

Gilels/Reiner Brahms No.2 is good, too. Very different from Richter/Leinsdorf. ( Optimistic rather than ominous )

I also love later Haitink with Vienna Phil and Ashkenazy. This was EJ's reco. He was right on. I love this one to my surprsie. ( I usually do not care for Ashkenazy's piano playing ) This one is so damn beautiful I have nothing terrible to say.

Peace Orchestra Reset. (Produced by Peter Kruder )

It's been a while I have given these records a spin.

It's just as funky as I remember and I am pleased that my LP12 with Royal N does pretty good with it.

Surprisingly decent Angel pressing as good as Decca. Quiet surface, warm intimate and focused voice.
