Original Island vinyl. Carl Palmer's drumming on Barbarian never ceases to amaze me.

One of the great albums.

Find out you're the chosen one. Oh No!

First listening, loud and in a darkened room. Brilliant.

Received this today and can't get enough! I'm relatively new to blues but this hits the spot for me!

Nich,

There are a couple of people here who listen to his music. I find it hard to separate his musical prowess from  George's (Black Adder).  Everytime I see him on a piano, somethow I picture him playing a silly tune. Hard to take him serioulsy no mattter how good he is. That's just me. Sorry!

Best,

Tony

Kuma, are you ready?

Haim,

Hope it'll clear up for Friday's concert.

Are you going to the Uchida/Muti Schuman show next week?

Kuma,

I don't think we are going. Enjoy the concert.

You're missing out!! Try thinking of House rather than Black Adder and it may help!!

Dudley Moore managed serious music and comedy, why not Hugh Laurie??

House is even worse with his silly american accent. Yeeek! Dudley was a very accomplished piano player, and I can just about listen to him! Hugh? Nah! Russians seem to love him though!!

Only played the first LP so far; a close up live feel with a happy crowd sound nicely subdued in the distance, and the SQ is absolutely fantastical!

Some musical blues diversity too, far more than just Mr. Clapton.

If the next 3 LPs boogie as good as the first, this set will be a big hit! : )

Reissue of his 1960 stereo recording.

Strongly defined and etched note delivery but less angular and hard nosed than Richter. There's always a lyrical and intuitive feel to Kempff's piano playing that I don't hear from many pianists both past and present.

Now I am curious about his earlier mono recordings.

Posted on: 12 March 2014 by kuma

Big swing and grand dynamic contrasts. His style sometimes reminds me of a kid having a great time splashing puddles on a street. Stark lights and darks. sweet soft movement is endearing with a tinge of blue.

Posted on: 12 March 2014 by kuma

Now for something completely different...

A lot of drama and beutifully played sometimes resembling linear Jazzy walking bass giving a solid rythmic structure. He's one of the great pianist who can express the feeling behind the tune via keyboards. Idiosyncratic interpretation on the 1st movement and the entire score runs over 30 mins. Not sure if this is one of his successful set as maybe too much of Gould showing.

But I much rather listen to this than note perfect soul-less renditions.
