Elbow "The Take Off And Landing Of Everything"
(Spotify Premium US) second listen, enjoying a lot

This Richter/Gauk set with USSR State Radio recorded in Moscow in '54 ( not his later more polished recordings when he secured his worldwide success ) gets to my heart with its sheer youthful power. Unusually Richter here is not so restrained and letting it go a little portraying someone who's in passionately in love. ( which I think it is the point of this tune )
Con amore: Kyung-Wha Chung (Violin), Phillip Moll (Piano)
Vinyl LP recently re-released. Original recording was at Forde Abbey, Somerset in October 1985. How time flies.

'48 recording Lipatti/Karajan Schuman Op.54 Concerto.
In spite with much bolder key strokes from Lipatti, this set doesn't quite get going.
Lipatti is banging enough at the finale, but somehow missing the passion and sounding like just a crowd pleaser piece at the concert.

She's one of my favourite fiddle player rivaling Heifetz!

How's Decca's current reissue?

The Beatles. Abbey Road. On MFSL vinyl from 1980.

2007 Hybrid SACD recording of Schubert's Great.
Unfortunately the sound is on a dry side and performance pretty generic. Director Jonathan Nott is the youngest conductor of the 9th I have been listening to far and I was hoping he'd offer something new and interesting insights. After all Schubert was only 28 when he wrote it so younger conductor should be able to convey the idea.
Nope. He does not have the emotional reach of Klemperer or Toscanini or sophistication of Wand or Sawalish.
I guess it's nothing wrong with this set but Nott just is not an interesting story teller as above giants.

Mudcrutch. On vinyl from 2008. An all analog effort from Tom Petty that includes an uncompressed CD. Excellent SQ on both, highly recommended!
Early Naim Label CD.

With the more ambitious Since Forever, Simon's lost none of his capacity for detail, or for shaping melodies that linger, long after the performances are over. His attractive and accessible writing hints at quintessentially American composers like Aaron Copland and Charles Ives, especially on "Simple Psalm," where Walker's turbulent drumming and Rodby's unshakable pulse create a surprising context for Simon and McCandless' rubato duet; clearly, some of Since Forever's most innovative and evolutionary moments.
