The Bevis Frond    North Circular    a double cd.

Double cassette. "Pulse" is not the most thrilling of live albums, there's something rather lifeless about it. But it is very well recorded, and  I was itching to hear what the Nak would make of a high quality pre-recorded tape.

I started off with the DSOTM section of the set - Speak to Me/Breathe. All I can say is... blimey. I didn't know cassette was capable of so much! The bass sounds pretty huge, the image is very wide and deep, the treble lively without being too bright or unpleasant and the experience feels (almost) indistinguishable from CD. Huge levels of detail are being extracted from the tape. Am enjoying the sound and the recording of this, but I wish the music itself had a bit more oomph.

Old but still fresh. Eleanor Rigby has all the magic I remember.
