 CC,

Everything old is new again.

Giving this old Mengelberg a try again.

I haven't got the clue on his stuff yet. Someone told me if I like Toscanini, I might like Mengelberg. I find them they are completely on the opposite end of the spectrum.

joe,

How can you be so sure if you haven't heard them back to back?

Do you have a Cisco reissue, too?

Posted on: 07 January 2014 by joerand

Fair enough Kuma. I really can't know without listening back to back as we both said. But when I've played the Greatest Hits it does not sound remarkably different from my recall of the original tracks. I have plenty of instances where I can say two issues of the same track sound different without having to hear them back to back; cd vs vinyl for example. One of these nights I'll compare some tracks back to back and post what I hear. No, I don't have any Cisco reissues.  I think the original vinyl Steely Dan sounds exceptional.

John Lennon. Plastic Ono Band. Remastered on CD from 2000. Much cleaner, tighter sound than the original 1970 release.

Origin

Maybe one to watch for the New Year as she has potential with the right batch of material.

If you wanted to buy any SD albums on cd these are the best sounding IMHO and that is after exhausting shootouts between various versions of the same title.

Aja 32XD-112 (Japan)
Can't Buy a Thrill 20P2-2099 (Japan)
Countdown to Ecstasy 18P2-2693 (Japan)
Gaucho 32XD-394 (Japan)
Katy Lied 18P2-2694 (Japan)
Pretzel Logic 20P2-2109 (Japan)
Royal Scam 20P2-2115 (Japan)

However if you want to get less expensive copies then get the Made in Japan US or Europe discs as these sound good as well. The earlier version the better and avoid the remasters like the bubonic plague. The earliest UK version was a Steve Hoffman version and it can still be got cheaply off of fleabay.

I can give you cat numbers for these titles if anyone wants as I have two or three versions of most of the SD titles.

Really good album and for me a real progression from their last album which was excellent as well.

and one of the coolest music videos ever!

Posted on: 08 January 2014 by Stevee_S

Why? Because I have loved it for a few year, it's advert free, the music they play is good, the stream quality is good particularly @ 320Kbs. It's a great way to discover new music to buy or just to investigate further. It's a good idea to keep a notepad or "Notes" on iPad open to jot down the good stuff...

If you happen to have enjoyed something but forgot to jot it down anywhere then you can go to the RP website here:

 http://www.radioparadise.com/rp_2.php?#

It shows the last 3 tracks played plus the current play which, should give you another ten minutes or so to get info' you want.

LP - Chelsea / vinyl from 1977 : )

After buying Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks" album, I have just stumbled on his "Moondance" album from 1970.

It's absolutely marvellous, engaging music. I have heard Van Morrison many times, but this is much better than any of his other work that I have heard.

A gem.

Best regards, FT

I do like a bit of Hall and Oates. My favourite being "Beauty on a Back Street".  The reason being that it became an integral part of a great road trip through Portugal in the mid 70s.
