May appeal to Bach aficionados, but then again, may not. .

There's not many 3 CD box sets I can listen too from start to finish, but this is one I can, never tire of listening to it.

fatcat - do tell me more; I am very familiar with his work as transcribed for classical guitar, but the rest of his body of work, not so much.

Dr Mark.

I don't know much about Villa Lobos myself. I just happened to pick up the boxset in a charity shop a few years ago.

Can't tell you any more than Wikipedia.

"The Bachianas Brasileiras  constitute a series of nine suites by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, written for various combinations of instruments and voices between 1930 and 1945. They represent not so much a fusion between Brazilian folk and popular music on the one hand, and the style of Johann Sebastian Bach on the other, as an attempt freely to adapt a number of Baroque harmonic and contrapuntal procedures to Brazilian music"

Superb version of No. 5, that CD is definitely on my shopping list. Strangely a few dozen available on amazon US, but not a single copy on the UK site.
