Been Reading a biography of Duke Ellington by Teachout a jazz bassist. Amazing history. After Christmas went to small vinyl store coastal CA heading home and bought a load of old jazz, many Pablo recordings. These are my DE LPs

*Ellington Vol2 The early years

*Side By Side Ellington and Johnny Hodges, Saxophone

*Ellington at Newport, the best live recording, the crowd goes wild

*Black, Brown and Beige box set of his Carnegie Hall concert, it is a digital remaster tho well done.

* Ellington in Sweden, 50s recording

*Pretty Woman, Duke Ellington,Vintage series

An interesting collection of Punk as it moved through the classic club, CBGBs in New York.  A mix of some studio recordings and some live recordings

The Bevis Frond  -  What Did For The Dinosaurs  -    epic album on cd.

One night on a TV channel they had interviews on Blondie at CBGB. and the transformation by a producer took them from punk to more dance and disco with Parallel Lines.  It was quite fun, I never had the album but saw them on MTV often. What a hit that was.

Yeah, caught the tail end of the show, it was on the HiFi channel where I am.  The club , CBGBs, was a dump but the groups that moved through there were something else.  It was a wild and crazy place, only went there once when in the early 80's when I was passing through New York.  Few clubs were like that.  The one in Toronto that was distantly similar (but is still in operation) was the HorseShoe Tavern.

Gave up trying to guess what that "thing" was. Not my Zep favourite album but as usual,  in LZ's albums,  Bonham's  beats always outstanding as in  Achilles Last Stand

John Gomm, Don't Panic, first play and very good it is too. Nice mellow accoustic guitar

Some Classic Cult, re-issue on 180gram vinyl, great tunes, great SQ.

Posted on: 29 March 2014 by Geofiz

Part 2 of the Cult re-issue, the apparently never released on vinyl Electric Peace album.  Also on 180gm vinyl and very good SQ if a little darker and more recessed than the re-issue of Electric.

Debs

Dear Debs,

Another great recording of this music is that by Sir Thomas Beecham [also on HMV/EMI]  though in a mid-fifties [stereo] recording.

Greig is rightly regarded as Norway's most internationally famous composer, and Peer Gynt is one of his real masterpieces!
