An absolutely wonderful album of Cohen arrangements.
all recorded in the one day.
1. Famous Blue Raincoat
2. Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye
3. Tower of Song
4. Take This Waltz
5. Suzanne
6. Anthem
7. You Know Who I Am
8. A Thousand Kisses Deep
9. Everybody Knows
10. Story Of Isaac
11. Dance Me To The End Of Love
From the truly spine tingling "Anthem" to the angry vitriol of "Story of Isaac" this is a gem of an album. Christine Tobin has such a wonderful voice and this is such an excellent sounding album.
With perhaps the exception of "Take this Waltz" each interpretation brings an exciting new emphasis to these well known songs.
SJB
Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures - cd.

My first listen was on the 2 LPs a couple of days ago but now from the enclosed CD while i soak in the tub : )
My first listen left me with mixed feelings, the direction and melody seemed difficult to pin down, it's not easy music to get into.
My second listen on the CD makes more sense, enjoying it far better now, love the guitar work and wish it could of been more prolonged, but the sax [not sure which one it is] on later tracks becomes tonally oppressively to the rest of the band, all too often when the sax is omitted it’s like a breath of fresh air which lifts the whole enjoyment.
This is nice but imo could have been better.
Debs

Another early Suzanne Vega CD. As well as her distinctive voice, there's some lovely acoustic playing on this album.

Marty Willson-Piper - Spirit Level. First listen through. I first heard 'Will I Start to Bleed' sung by Julianne Regan on the All About Eve unplugged album, Fairy Light Nights and fell in love with the song so I thought I'd get the original. Had it for a while now but never got around to listening to the album all the way through until now. Not bad, but I'll have to listen to it again.
Followed by ...

Bert Janch - The Black Swan
A great album by an exceptional guitarist, especially the title track.

First listen of this newly purchased CD. Classic Waters with a very strong flavour of Floyd's Brick in the Wall.
I really like this album - I will play it later - with the lights out.
My wife has always denied that she modelled for the album cover - I'm not sure if I believe her ![]()
Punk never meant anything to me but this album is a classic:

If she did, I would find puzzling that you spend so much time travelling to Manchester and elsewhere, rather than enjoying yourself at home!
on compact disc Robert Calvert - At The Queen Elizabeth Hall - .

The wonderful debut album from ELP on CD. The Barbarian always gets my foot tapping and the drum solo on Tank takes some beating.
On vinyl, as is almost always the case....

Epic rock!
Roy Harper "Bullinamingvase" on vinyl. Side 2 his elegy for lost England "One of those Days in England" is really moving.
Can it really be 45 years ago when I bought this album, played it loud with air guitar in the dark....just like now!

What a year 1969!
The fan on my NAP has kicked in ![]()
Richard

Jerry Joseph "Jerry Joseph" (iTunes download)
newest solo release
Good point - even though the album was released 30 years ago
Perhaps I won't do the European games next season to make up for it ![]()
Nice one. This and Abbey Road are my two favourite Beatles albums. Never tire of playing them.

On CD. One of the best Floyd albums but I'm hankering after a better quality recording of it.

Excellent guitar work by Steve Vai, and a rocking cover version of California Girls, which is great but totally pales into insignificance musically when you see the music video of the same track! ![]()
