Tori Amos "Abnormally Attracted To Sin"

This was a nice surprise from a recent release from Naxos.

I usually prefer French conductor for Ravel ( Boulez, Martinon, Cluytens ) but I am enjoying some of the pieces from this ultra polished Slatkin set.

Perhaps less substance and lacking playfulness but I can appreciate a modern gorgeous sound particularly from the Naxos budget label.

John Mellencamp "The Best That I Could Do:  1978 - 1988"

I was given this triple CD yesterday. It's made by the Utenricksdepartentet (the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and Norsk Jazz Forum. Thus far, some really, really good stuff on here. Can you imagine our Foreign Office promoting British music in his way? I think not...

Over The Rhine "Drunkard's Prayer"

Mount Moriah

CD.  NC band.  As per the Amazon write up a "country-tinged indie rock".  Makes sense to me.  I think listeners that like Tift Merritt, Son Volt, and other Americana/Folk Rock bands would enjoy this.
