I've got twelve of her albums which I think is a full set though if anyone knows of any others I shall rush out and buy it immediately!

A bit of Hendrix to start the evening's listening and this CD contains the sublime Little Wing.  But with this talk of Mary Black I'm already planning where I will go next.

got a letter up this morning
how do you reckon it read?
red and blue and green
and whoo, all through my head
licked the stamps
saw a movie
dropped the stamp
oh, i ain't got noblues no more, i said
put me up thinking a postman is groovy
i ain't, whoo, i ain't got the blues no more, i said
whoo

well, send me with a letter, lord
drop me with a telegram, i said
my baby walked just like she did
walking on hard-boiled eggs with a --
there's a --
she can steal them
oh, i ain't blue no more, i said
lord, one duck jumped up
lord, and an other one quacking
yes, she got those great big drums sticking out, whoooo
big chicken legs beat when she walks
flapping down the street where i live
well, she's slipping along
easy like fried chicken
grew sort of greasy, easy, hmm
oh, i ain't blue no more
i ain't blue no more, i said
yes, she walked along
crazy like kind of crazy
oh, sort of lazy, sleazy, cheesy
you know what i mean, i said

I wonder what ever happened to the master tapes of this LP he left in a cab

Imagine what they would be worth if they were found

As promised to myself. A Stone's Throw From The Soul is real peach in this already excellent album.

Yep, I knew t'was Fat Valley of Pain but too late to edit. I'm not a completist and, like all other artists, not everything Mary's recorded is great.

Depends how far you want to go ...

Mary Black Live , The Best of Mary Black and Hidden Harvest , 25years / 25 songs , are all essential albums.

Also check out ' Mary Black Essentials' a free cd given away with The Irish Mail.  Has some grate live versions not available elsewhere.  Usually can be picked up cheap on ebay.

There is also a very rare BBC transcription cd of Mary at the Glastonbury festival in 1994.

Perhaps I'm a little bias, Tony.  I would admit that Full Tide and The Holy Ground are not as good as her other albums.

Many thanks, Michael. I hadn't thought to explore recordings of Mary's live performances. I'll look into that.

Honestly Mary live is even better than any of her studio albums.   If you want to catch her live she is preparing to stop touring , but is due to return to the UK for a last time next year.

I really should do that.  Thanks for the heads-up, Michael
