Hi SJB. This was my first Lizzie album and I would have bought it for Emerald alone. We used to sneak home from school at lunch time to play it very loud on my mate's stereo while everyone was at work

Love that album.

Although Fitzpatrick did that "pyschedelic" graphic it in fact used the famous photo by Alberto Korda, Guerrillero Heroico. Some time ago he (Fitzpatrick) handed over the copyright in perpetuity to Guevara's family, IIRC.

This Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3 has a springy youthful outlook contrasting to Schnabel's old fashion filigrees. Gould puts in his own take on the cadenza as usual. Intimate and sweet Largo taking unusually slow and rather overly elaborated. Lenny's orchestration here is beautiful and maintaining a necessary tension. Rondo is measured rather than dashing out of the gate remaining steady.

Perhaps it does not have the sophistications of others, but Gould's piano playing always makes me smile like I am having fun WITH him.

Todd Garfinkle: Prayers, Wishes, Illusions

This catalyst for the label presents a collection of lushly exotic, but simple piano and bass chamber jazz duets by MA producer and founder Todd Garfinkle with bassist Shigeo Sugiyama. Much of the music was composed for a documentary about the survival of the Japanese crane on the northern most island of Hokkaido, known for its beauty and grace. The piano used was the Bösendorfer Imperial at the Harmony Hall in Matusmoto, Japan. The startling cover photo is of a Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka.
