Grateful Dead - American Beauty

Followed by:  Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead

CD.  Haven't listened to their studio albums in a while.  Been listening to the Dave's Picks series as well as the Jerry Garcia live albums.  'American Beauty' was my introduction some 27 years ago.

Quick footed and surprisingly bold and strong Barenboim's piano playing. Lively and youthful 1st movement with lyrical cadenza. Not as stormy as it could be but I prefer this set over his later more mature but nebulous Beethoven Concertos recordings. (Staatskapelle Berlin)

Original Westminster stereo is impressive in terms of clarity and dynamics as well as its over all natural balance.

Got both of these albums but personally I have never really gotten into the Dead. I keep them just in case one day I do.

Had this for a couple of weeks just sitting on a pile for listening to but this is the first chance I felt like playing it today. This is a really good album and definitely going to get a lot of play in my household.

The Beatles. Live at the BBC. On CD from 1994. This recording is perfect on a boombox with "bass-boost" and "repeat-all" buttons pressed while working in my shop. The boombox is older than the CDs .

Lovely start to the day.

ECM New Series presents the first full album devoted to the composer Dobrinka Tabakova, who was born in Bulgaria in 1980, raised from a young age in London, and is now a British citizen. This remarkable recording of her orchestral and chamber compositions for strings is richly melodic, texturally sensuous, and often emotionally radiant.
