The Early Beatles  (The U.S. Album)

The BeatlesAudio CD

He seems more comfortable playing Grieg pieces than Beethoven.

The orchestra has a chamber feels with a touch of Hydn-esq flair. slow movements have an intimate clear translucent voice but the two outer movements can use some liveliness. I miss the big, bold Beethoven. I still find his expressions limited in range the whole presentation sounds too reserved. The same goes for the orchestra.

I actually enjoyed his recent live gig playing Beethoven Sonatas but still lacking that sense of playfulness and *dare*.

For a *low energy* Beethoven concertos, noone beats Kempff's playing for me.

This is a live recording of his last recording of Beethoven Piano Concertos cycle done with NHK Symphony in 1970. Apparently, he was fond of Japan and this was his 6th visit. ( he made 4 more before he died )

Touch of keys are softer than usual for this program and there are a few misplaying ( he does not stand the chance of today's demanding note perfect playing ). This isn't an acrobatic power house yet somehow his playing so communicative and expressive. As he always did, he supplies his own cadenzas which I always enjoy.

The Beatles. Live! At the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962.

I've had this LP for more than 35 years, but only played it a few times. Interesting to get back to it. It captures an important historical place and time in the Beatles' past, but is now surpassed in quality and energy by the BBC recordings. Anyhow, fun to hear it again after all these years. A surprisingly nice German pressing on heavy vinyl, given the quality of the source tapes.

You're welcome MDS. Glad you like it.

Thanks to you both, just bought a Sirenia album and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure about the comparison to Garbage though. Sirenia is heavier and darker in my opinion.

If you like Sirenia, you might want to try Lacuna Coil. They have a similar, mainly female vocal led, heavy rock sound.
