A young French Canadian musical Director for Rotterdam Phil, Nezet-Seguin's first symphonic recording for DG.

Whilst his Pathetique does not have much of an emotional investment, this is extremely colourful and textural. Plus it seems to be well thought out. Certainly he gave me a much better impression out of this performance than, say, Dudamel who's another young conductor.

What's unexpected is the second half of the program where the conductor on piano with Lisa Batiashvilli playing Tchaikovsky's Romance tunes.  A nice contrast from the heavy Pathetique with a cleansing effect.

These are written for voices but here, they work great with expressive and intimate Lisa's fiddle playing.

Every year, I try to expand my classical music horizon to something I have never heard before or drill down deeper in composer's catalogue to see if I understand.

Witold Lutoslawski was a Polish 20th century composer (1913-1994) and the only work I have heard to date is his Cello Concerto played by Yo-Yo Ma/Salonen/CSO once.

This is his orchestral work complication conducted by the composer himself which I think is a good starting point.

It appears they have weathered the years pretty well.  I approximate the same time frame as they and not sure I have done so well, at least not the last 12 years.  I am pretty sure they are better off financially.

I love their music.

I agree, they certainly look quite healthy and fit for their ages, though Stevie may be purposefully placed in the back trying to hide a pound or two .
