Wreck of Blues

Sent to me by a Swedish friend. Not bad. The guy has something to do with the Swedish Rock band Bonafide (think that is what they are called). This however is more of a Blues rock album.

MFSL vinyl from the first time around.

One day a friend came over wanting to hear Reubke's 94th Psalm on my system.

I remember I was transfixed on the couch for an entire 30 min. Never heard of this composer or anything about the piece, he told me that Julius Reubke was Listz's student ( some Listz's Fantasia like riff present ) and dead at 24!

This is some heavy stuff.

I am more impressed with the impeccably well reserved original vinyl than rather dull Bruno Walter/NY Phil performance. ( 46 recording at the Carnegie )

This is a polar opposite from Toscanini or Klemperer set which are hell of a lot more alive and rhythmically charging. I wish I could have their recordings in the same quality as this Columbia pressing. I am surprised that the bass dynamics and tonal balance is very good in spite its vintage.

1942 live recording of Shostakovich Symphony No.7 ( Leningrad ). Unlike the Walter Carnegie set above this was done at the infamous studio 8H recording studio. The sound is dry, dry dry...
