Frédéric Chopin:  Daniil Trifonov (Piano)

Rondo for Piano in F major, B 15/Op. 5 "à la Mazur"
Waltz for Piano in E flat major, B 62/Op. 18 "Grande valse brillante"
Etudes (12) for Piano, Op. 10: no 8 in F major
Andante spianato et Grand polonaise brillante in E flat major, Op. 22
Mazurkas (3) for Piano, B 153/Op. 56
Sonata for Piano no 3 in B minor, B 155/Op. 58

One thing for sure is that Daniil Trifonov and his Fazioli Piano have a unique style and character of playing.  This is a good thing and as such, I quite enjoyed this album.

1950 William Kapell's Rach 2.

I think the colour combo on cover art looks cool. Love the minty green and neon orange.

Ashkenazy/Haitink's Rach 2 from the 80s.

This early digital recording is smooth but too distant and laid back.

Performance wise, this one belongs in Rubinstein school of playing. ( altho, ironic that the famous Rubisntein/Reiner set actually is more muscular than this )

Not as chunky and fun as his early set with Kondrahin. Haitink's direction has no balls but fluid and translucent enough to get the polished effect. But this No.2 is dull.

Another winner for me definite addition to my collection.  Some brilliant textures, spacial awareness and dynamics in this album. Not due out until 20th Jan.

For all his acolytes he is playing London in March and I think tickets are still available.
