Hannes Minnaar (Piano)

Sonata for Piano no 1 in D minor, Op. 28 by Sergei Rachmaninov
Sonatine for Piano by Maurice Ravel
Miroirs by Maurice Ravel

The first recording of Hannes Minnaar.  I like his style of playing.  It is very nice here and gets even better on his second disc, "Bach Inspirations".

Back to old faithful! Das Rheingold currently.

WAV to NS01 through NDS - sounds magnificent. I'm half tempted to buy the 200th anniversary remaster, but at £150 currently it still seems a bit steep. But then it does contain a 24 bit BluRay version which could probably be ripped to the NS01. Mmm...

If I recall rightly I paid about £100 for this in 1985, so in real terms £150 looks like a bargain! Where's my credit card?

Here is my Doppelgänger - my double, another soul-mate who walks this earth somewhere and shares a common vision musically.  What I like especially is the understated musicianship with a singing line heard is very distinct and very rarely heard elsewhere these days.  She coaxes only beauty out of her Bösendorfer.  In fact, this is one of the few recordings I have heard where in fact I think the Bösendorfer is a magnificent sounding instrument.  Is this just the skill of the recording engineers/producer here.

Do not get the wrong idea though.  I always prefer the bottom 40 as opposed to the top 40 style.  I am suspicious of "stars" as I know there is always some marketing schmuck behind this.  I get excited though about those who quietly do things for the right reason - they truly just want to share musical adventures and ideals.  This recording excites me not only since it covers a small portion of music that is especially dear to me currently but it seems to match exactly the style of playing I also have admiration for.  It is anti-stage and big lights / big names.  This music and playing belongs in the home.  One on one.  Me and the piano.  Me and Schubert / Liszt.  Me and the music.  That is all.   This is often not marketable in a mass media way and would not hold many peoples interest these days as this low key anti-marketed does not sell.

I have run out of time now but I may bring up some of my musical highlights later...

1st press Deram. Have listened to both the Mono and Stereo versions. It's interesting that the bas is more buried and less distinct on the Stereo mix compared with the Mono. Nicely recorded live album.

What do you think of this one Jeff?

Just saw this, Matt.  I enjoyed the first listen.  I am a fan so will be returning for more listens.  Initially sounds closer to Afterglow era than Illusions, both of which I like, so I expect it will be a regular play.
