Uri Caine plays compositions for piano solo on a special Steinway grand piano in the former Power Station recording studio, a room with excellent acoustics and best analog technique. All recordings were one-take. Uri Caine's distinctive playing comes to its full reveal in the piece Map of the Heart and in the virtuoso compositions Greasy or Chandon de Johnson. Bow Bridge consists of elements of composition and improvisation. Everything is Bullshit reminds of a Kagel-like foray into the realms of the Harlem stride piano. The Magic of her Nearness carries in itself the wonderful and sentimental but exciting, sometimes bemusing duality that pervades the whole recording. Producer Stefan Winter works with a microphone set-up that allows him to record the sound directly to an analog master tape without any artificial reverbration and special effects and without a manipulation of the frequency ranges. Ron Saint Germain, the third man of the team, directs the recording device; especially for this live-to-analog-two-track procedure the sound engineer has a major responsibility as his work determines the specific recording level making the sound saturation unchangeable in the very moment of the recording.

And now for the most beautiful 'white male' voice ever recorded. Although, in some instances you are forgiven if you thought those notes were emanating from a black woman.

A superbly recorded album if you like your American Folk...folky.

Streaming, because it's one of my all time. Double albums.

Famed for her association with The Communards (Don't leave me this way) in the mid-80s and infamous for a banned rendition of the classic Me and Mrs Jones, Sarah Jane Morris has always attracted as much attention for her politics as for her soul-driven, seismic voice. Nine solo albums later, pop stardom on the continent, and a diverse set of musical collaborations on record, film and stage, Morris continues to steer her unorthodox career to greater heights. This is Sarah Jane's 11th album and the tracks are co-written with Dominic Miller (Sting's right hand man and co-writer of Shape My Heart) and Martyn Barker (Billy Bragg and The Blokes).
