Another 80 min. 7th.
The trend seems to be a longer reading. This is even longer than Gergiev set.
*Advancing army section* is well developed and depict a vivid picture of the invasion and desctrucrtion. I can't help thinking it feels a bit like a soundtrack for an epic drama but reasonably preserving regal and defiant spirit. Nicely polished surface altho at times sounds a tad polite. Adagio is whisper quiet and drawn out and mysterious. Then the final movement comes in like a burst of light. Pity that the strings sound too astringent. Also, I think that the final movement is too stretched out before reaching to the victory finale.
It is long but I think this is a well thought out modern set.
Oldie by the father. These days it is the daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, who makes waves on the silver screen.
Some albums are just very evocative of a time in your life - this is one of those for me...
Underrated live offering from the second iteration of the ABB - certainly nowhere near as good as the Filmore East stuff, but a good presentation of that version of the group in a live setting.
Shame I couldn't get any tickets for Hammersmith
very nice start of Sunday which is rainy - recommended disc for who likes romantic, gentle piano music..
