Tales Of Hoffmann is lovely to play [in the orchestra] as well as listen to in the audience. Not a real technical challenge to play, but some great music!
ATB from George
Hi George,
This version is interesting I that it is sung in English. Do you know of other good recordings? I find that this can be a difficult one to track down. The music is very good, particularly the interweaving female vocals in Act III.
Cheers,
Rob
Dear Rob,
I cannot answer your question, but could not leave your post un-replied. My sole experience of this is from playing twice for a week each in it, and two isolated 78 transfers by Elisabeth Schumann, and also Thomas Beecham's LPO recordings for EMI [English Columbia] of two four minute sections.
I looked up the discography and I would be tempted by Georges Pretre on Warner Classic [EMI recording originally perhaps, given the artists] in 1981 with the Royal Opera House [Covent Garden, London] forces and leading soloist, Placido Domingo.
That would be my guess. What I would go for.

Crusaders' only white ex guitarist does cream puffs.
Keb' Mo' - Bluesamericana
First Keb' Mo' album.See him on this thread frequently. Happened to see this new release in the record shop last week, so decided to give it try. First listen.

Time for some more blues ...

Oscar Castro-Neves: Sad to see his passing.
Brazillian smooth jazz guitar player.
Joan Armatrading of '72 debut album collaboration with Pam Nestor.
For die-hard fans only.
CD version.
Brilliant record.
Gielan/SWR's Mahler 1.
Suave and swift.
a recommendation from the perspective of quiet, ambient jazz and from an audiophile perspective in high res...
Hawkind - WELCOME TO THE FUTURE - 2cd. Compilation of scarce live recordings from the Charisma label years. The sound quality is better than is on some of the official releases of this material.
very similar to the Helge Lien Trio - music and audiophile wise....
nice modern jazz.....
...swicthed to this - Eric Vloeimans started to become really jazzy, from the smooth jazz start....not wrong but more something for the evening...., so I switched to the always excellent Martha Argerich with her 2013 Lugano on high res....
