... a great album, it took some time to grow on me, but it has some brilliant pieces amongst the normal pieces..
180 grm vinyl
I have these on cd, and they are truly great performances. The sound lacks a bit in the bass. Does the vinyl sound good (with sufficient bass), or is it the same as the cd?
BBM
Listening to side 1 track 1 and plenty bass to my ears on cd ripped to FLAC.

Now before anyone comments. Yep I did listen to all these Randall Bramblett albums one after another today and I don't work for him or his Record company.
I can't believe that is guilt? This a truly excellent and underrated album. One of my top three from last year.
james
Yep James would easily be in my Top Ten of the year. Mind you he really hasn't ever made a bad album.

A bit of Alf, what a great voice she has.
Haven't played this particular Mary Black CD for a while and not since adding another PL to the system. Bass sounds lovely a deep and controlled. I'm normally not a fan of 'bonus tracks' on CDs but this one, Fields of Gold, is a treat.
On Vinyl first play so far so good

I like this a lot...
Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No.1.
Slow sweet opening as if the tune started from the middle. There is a hint of magical air. Written by a 19 year old composer yet there are plenty of Prokofiev signatures showing in abundance.
Dear Kuma,
Your post inspired me to get this recording on EMI CD [Great Recordings Of The Century]], and it is great!
The coupling is the Second Concerto and the Violin Sonate Number Two.
You know that you have caused me to buy a new CD of music that I did not know. The first CD of new music to me for perhaps twenty years! You genius!
Thanks for the inspiration and prompt!
Very best wishes from George

On Vinyl...had this a couple of weeks now and the more I play it the more it reveals and the more I love it, really good musicianship and lyrical content well worth checking out...a very under rated band IMHO.....

I once had that LP!
Bloody good!

Vinyl from the mid 70s.
It's been a while since I've listened to Schumann.
Richter plays my favourite Piano Sonata No.2 live. One of the few decent sounding live recording of his.
From the first chord, I am struck with his greatness.
This is the recording that I realised that this piece has much more of textures and varying colours under Richter's singing hands.

George,
I am flattered that I could give a classical music tip!
I probably know 1/100 of what you know in classical music!
Prokofiev's music has been interesting but some of his pieces are bit difficult to get to. Especially when I am still plowing through the 3 Bs ( Bach, Beethoven, Brahms ) catalogue. But more I listen to beyond Lt. Kije and Love for Three Oranges, I realise that his *smaller* pieces are really well written! and I actually have a lot more respect for the composer.
You have inspired me to try others many times on others in the past so I am glad that I could repay a little.
during workout - very relaxing, there is always a certain smoothness when she plays a piece....

Love that album and sad that I only "discovered" it this year thanks to this forum.
