The saddest Andante I have heard from Schubert.

I haven't gotten into too deep in Schubert's chamber music but this is extremely well crafted and I quite like the way Budapest Quartet executed it.

Structurally titanic in nature as composer's Great C Major.

Tamar Beraia:  Portrait

Joseph Haydn:  Sonata Hob. XVI:37 in D major

Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata op. 14, no. 2 in G major

Robert Schumann: Carnaval op. 9

Franz Liszt: Mephisto Waltz no. 1 in A mmajor "Der Tanz in der Dorshenke"

Bach-Busoni: Chaconne in D minor BWV 1004

There is something about Georgian pianists and me.  We get along just fine and this recording makes me happy.

Dear Kuma,

I agree that the C Major Quintet is one of the great Titanic Masterpices of Chamber Music. But do try out the E Flat Piano, Violin and Cello Trio by Schubert. I commend the performance by Rudolf Serkin, Adolf and Hermann Busch. The slow movement is an amazing tragic march, which while less lyrical than the Quintet is one of the best slow movements in classical music. The outer movements are every bit as engaging!

Something to investigate!

ATB from George

PS: In my humble view the Budapest made the best cycle of Beethoven String Quartets and only the half cycle by the Busch Quartet offers even more depth and humanity!

George,

I am not surprised that Busch/Serkin trio would be good. Their Ghost Piano Trio is pretty good!

Expressive and intimate one of the more personal rendition for the Op.70. Noone outstages anyone and youngish Serkin provides playful yet thoughtful foil for fiddles.

The trio misses nothing in terms of details moving swfitly but maintaining clarity and articulation. Hats off!

I look for their Schubert pieces. Thanks for the tip!

I have tried ordering this on vinyl from Amazon but both the original and replacement copy were badly warped

They suspended selling it while they investigated why but I see it is available again now, maybe I will try again.

A great album in my view too MDS. I have only just taken it out of the car where it has been played constantly for the past 2 months or so. I am only sad that there is unlikely to be any more music from them.
