I'm normally a Blues/Rock/Folk person, but have a pretty eclectic taste in music, and so do sometimes listen to classical music. I find this album by Rachel Podger extremely therapeutic.
A hi-res download in FLAC from Channel Classics.
Hi apye!
How does the 2014 re-master compare with the original?
Hi,
I don't have the original vinyl but compared with my original CD this new vinyl is an improvement.
Rgds,
Andy.

Motherland: Kathia Buniatishvili (piano) (with Gvantsa Buniatishvili on the four-hand piano work)
Back to Georgia (the former CIS one). I like Kathia Buniatishvili and this program but as usual, being very sensitive to the sound quality of the music I listen to I wonder what happened here? I understand they may have wanted a more soft or muted outcome but I think they went to far. Of course, it sounds OK on a i-Pod or through i-Tunes on the computer so maybe that is what Sony is aiming for in today's market. I do not like harsh, percussive sounding pianos. Far from it. I always prefer a soft, rich, bell like tone out of a piano (very rare). This recording though sounds like they tried to artificially achieve this result and the outcome is distasteful to me. It sounds filtered and unnatural - much like a very over processed digital photo vs. a beautiful analog outcome.

Florestan,
Which tune?
Hard to imagine percussive Clair de Lune?
But then again that's how she sounded live. ( percussive pianos )
Earlier ...
Led Zeppelin III (Deluxe Edition) 24/96 FLAC. My favourite Zeppelin album.
and now ...
Pink Floyd - Saucerful Of Secrets. MP3 autorip until the CD arrives tomorrow. One more step towards completing my Floyd collection. A fun album with some zany and nostalgic sections.
On good quality German vinyl.
Steve,
Did not know you were a Can fan but there again no surprise as so am I.

Steve,
This is a reissue on Spoon Records. Following the recent release of the box set they are issuing the LPs singly. This is a double LP and is about £17 on Amazon. Good SQ and nice vinyl/packaging but have a listen on Spotify or something to see if it's your cup of tea. The original vinyl is expensive.
Richard,
This is my first Can album. They passed over my head in the past. I have to say I find it a bit of a mixed bag. I love Halleluhwah but just don't get Aumgn at all. It was worth a punt for the price.
We may be coming up to Yorkshire in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know my plans nearer the time.

Steve, "Tago Mago' is their masterpiece - one of the very best albums ever made IMO, although I do admit you have to be pretty hardcore to enjoy "Aumgn" and "Peking O" (which I do ).
The other albums you could take a punt on are "Ege Bamyasi", "Soundtracks", "Monster Movie", "Future Days" and "Soon After Babaluma".
Can are well worth investigating - hugely influential on a vast range of groups and artists from Joy Division, Talking Heads, PiL, and many 70s prog acts through to Bowie and even Kraftwerk.
What do you think of Jaki Liebezeit as a drummer? I think he is awesome - up there with Bonzo as far as I am concerned.
Thanks Kevin. I agree the percussion on this record is excellent, especially on Halleluhwah.
Steve will give it try later.
Steve,
This is a good Can sampler if you ever see it:

That's, uncanny Hmack, I have had that on in the car for the past week. I really like it and well produced.
