Steve,

This used to be a favourite of mine back in the day. Haven't listened to it for ages, but going to put that to rights now!

The first time actually I am listening to the second vinyl in the White Album. I was never a big Beatles fan and always thought their records are mandatory listening rather than actually enjoying them.

it's kind of wierd to see 'Helter Skelter' in the song listing as I was aware it's tied to the Manson murder case.

I see that this album has a historical significance and later generations of rock/pop musicians *borrowed* a lot from this.

This album still remains to me as an academic listening as if I said i love it, I would be lying.

Kuma,

It only gets better with repeated listening .

FWIW - from Wikipedia - "Charles Manson was unaware that "Helter Skelter" is a British word for a spiral slide found on a playground or funfair, and assumed the track had something to do with hell. This was one of the key tracks that led Manson to believe the album had coded messages referring to apocalyptic war, and led to his movement of the same name."

The Best of Warren Zevon. Genius. On CD from 2002. Always a genuine energy in Zevon's song writing and performances.

I won't be pulling out of that record anytime soon.

I've just discovered two wonderful tunes. Britten's Simple Symphony and Grieg's Holberg Suite. This is a '77 Denon digital recording. Pretty impressive dynamics albeit the strings can still sound a tad bleached and losing textures at upper register.
