I missed that news about Charlie. He features on some of my favourite records in this genre. I just read an obit. Very sad. The passing of a great guy, it seems.

This is an excellent record. Up there with the incomparable "Jasmine".

I certainly agree winkyincanada. I'll make sure to check out Jasmine too - thanks for the suggestion!

Right now I'm listening to Bill Evans "Jazz Masters 5" from Verve. Quite a coincidence that Charlie Haden's last record was called "Last Dance", because here I am reading the info provided by N-stream and it appears that Bill Evans' last record was "The Last Waltz" (not trying to be funny or disrespectful).

I haven't played this record after I bought my Naim system and I must say this has been quite an eye opening experience. The double bass sounds so precise and articulate and Bill Evans' playing really comes into focus because of it. The audience chatting and drinking is very audible in the live recordings of this album and just adds to the atmosphere. Wow, the SU/US combo is truly sublime!

This has turned out to be quite an evening! Just finished listening to Kaizer Orchestra's Trilogy: "Violeta, Violeta", volume I, II and III. I just love their wonderful and idiosyncratic sound; rock, ompa, banging away on oil barrels with crow bars etc. Or from Wikipedia:

"Musically, Kaizers Orchestra have explored many different genres of music, the most prominent being fast-paced gypsy rock and "Balkan brass". They are regarded as one of Europe's best live acts, with their 2002 Performance at Roskilde earning them several "Concert of the Year" awards, as well as "Concert of Roskilde 2002".

Esbjörn Svensson Trio: "From Gagarin's Point of View"

Felt like rounding the evening off with EST. This music is almost dreamlike. You can almost imagine Gagarin in orbit looking down at the earth with equal parts of fear and excitement.
