John Cale photo above reminds me of young Rachmaninov.

Ewen, how does the SQ compare with the MOFI or recent SHM?

Haven't done a comparison yet but will do hopefully sometime this week. If memory serves me well you liked the SHM but I preferred the MOFI.

They both sound fine to me and DR wise measure the same, I can't envisage much by way of improvement so I may keep my dosh out of the checkout on this one.  The SHM is stated as a flat transfer from the analogue tapes so it will be interesting to learn what, if anything, has been tweaked for this set.

Will be in touch when I do the shootout.

This is one of my very favourite Brandenburgs Kuma, so I'm interested as to why you think that. Do you feel that way about most Pinnock/TEC recordings, or just this one (I personally love his/their intterpretions of Handel, Haydn, Bach etc)?

Kevin & Winky,

It’s played on period instruments so sure gets into the blue blooded moods but awfully stuffy and formal for me.

Excellent transparent clean recording and rhythmic but they all feel like trotting lipizan horses.

I realise that Bach wrote these for a royal dude ( Brandenburg ) but I prefer a bit more causal and romantic approach to dig behind the notes a bit deeper.

Listen to Klemperer's slow movement from the No.1 and see what you think. I found out that this is more like it for me so far.

I am still trying to crack a *Bach* nut. ( not easy ) The only way is to listen as many reading as possible hope for the best.

Kari Bremnes "Fantastisk Allerede". She's not very known outside Norway which is a pity. Although she sings in Norwegian her songs are varied and particularly melodious.

Memory Almost Full [Deluxe Limited Edition]

Paul McCartney. Memory Almost Full. On CD from 2007. Not one of my favorite Macca albums. His voice sounds strained to me on many tracks, although songs like Dance Tonight, Ever Present Past, and Vintage Clothes are quality McCartney pop standards. Interesting that much of the recording of "Chaos And Creation In The Backyard", which I consider one of his best albums, was imbedded within the recording sessions for "Memory Almost Full".
