Excellent transparent clean recording and rhythmic but they all feel like trotting lipizan horses.

I realise that Bach wrote these for a royal dude ( Brandenburg ) but I prefer a bit more causal and romantic approach to dig behind the notes a bit deeper.

Listen to Klemperer's slow movement from the No.1 and see what you think. I found out that this is more like it for me so far.

I am still trying to crack a *Bach* nut. ( not easy ) The only way is to listen as many reading as possible hope for the best.

Funny isn't it, because I have the Klemperer, and I've always found it a bit treacly and leaden. The Pinnock/TEC has much more spring and zip to it, even if it is quite analytical.

Have you heard the Harnoncourt (with the Centus Musicus Wien)?

Buffalo Springfield. Eponymous debut from 1966. On HDCD from 1997 with both mono and stereo versions. Liner notes tell the story of the band mixing the LP in mono and being "very surprised" to hear the stereo releases, done by ATCO without their knowledge.

Got to check that one out!

Now listening to Soundgarden and "Superunknown". I used to listen to this album a lot when it came out. Sort of having been dormant up until now so I had to buy the remastered version. It sounds good!

Having noticed that quite a few on the forum rate this album I bought it today.  First time I've heard this lady and I like what I hear. Might explore some of her other albums now.

And after Lana Del Rey, I thought I'd give this one a play as I haven't listened to it for quite a while. It's still got it's magic.

Kevin,

This is what's so fascinating about classical music. Just like hifi, one man's sugar is another man's vinegar.

Pinnock set is indeed bouncy but the problem is they all sound the same. ( I only have No.1-3 tho )

Klemperer set you find slow, to my ears, feels like a breathing pattern where I can feel the pulse of human. Maybe it's not cleanly played as Pinnock/TEC but I like the fact that they take off wigs and less white powder on their faces. At least to me anyways.

I haven't heard Harnoncourt's Brandenburg. You prefer Pinnock over it?

Spirit of the West - Home for a Rest / Save this house on 45 rpm purple vinyl.  Great songs, great band , great recording.

Followed up by

Another great recording, mono but powerful.

Finally some Amy Lavere.  Powerful string bass which adds a lot to the music.  Great recording. On translucent orange vinyl.
