Explosions In The Sky - Prince Avalanche: An Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Haven't seen the movie, but got the album as a fan of the band. First listen. A departure from their usual sound; which is cool to hear. So far a good album for a mellow evening.
Horowitz/Reiner live concert from Carnegie. 1952 mono.
The most creative interpretation of the 5th I have heard so far.
Horowitz got the temperamental star piano player part down with many bold daring moves.
Out of box super creative improvisation the composer would have tried. 2nd movement opens with rather heavy handed orchestra but Horowitz enters with such a lovely sensitive touches offsetting elephant like Reiner who tends to dominate soloists sometimes. Transition into Rondo is well crafted. Pity that piano sounds absolutly horrid losing most of the impact. Yet playfulness and Horowitz’s unique style is evident he’s letting it rip.
Golden Earring. Moontan. On vinyl from 1973. My older brother got this LP when I was ten years old. We shared a bedroom and I remember listening with him to Radar Love and Candie's Going Bad over and over (they are tracks one and two on the US release) on his Sound Design TT. For some reason I don't remember listening to Vanilla Queen (track three on side one). Sure, Radar Love is a classic with great brass and Cesar Zuiderwijk got chops on it. I just wonder why I don't remember Vanilla Queen, as I enjoy it and the entire LP so much these days.

If that's a pic of the front cover then that is the Hoffman US version where the order of and the track listing is different. The European album also has a different cover. If you like that one try Contraband, To the Hilt (worth buying it for the track Sleepwalkin alone) and also the Live album.
Formed in 65 and still going strong.
Steely Dan - Citizen Steely Dan (4 CD Boxset) (Disc 1)
The 1993 boxed set remaster was the first time since the originally issued CDs that the albums used the correct source tape
Thanks for the info' bishopla I wasn't aware of that but have enjoyed this SD boxset for years.
I have this set as well as all the individual remastered discs. To my ears at least the third CD of this set, which includes my favourite SD album, 'The Royal Scam', sounds better than the remastered individual album. In the case of all the other albums I think the remasters win.
If you want to best sounding ones get the original MCA discs. The later ones were all goosed don't sound anywhere near as good. If you want I can post the cat no's.

No doubt the original cover was considered too risqué for the US, what with the breasts and pubic hair and all . Not sure why the track order was changed. Thanks for the tip on Contraband, will keep my eye out.

Two brilliant Womack albums. Greatly missed.
Rudy Warman & The Heavy Weather.
Three lads from Folkestone I caught busking in Ramsgate yesterday.
My wife even bought their CDs.

A bit of nostalgia for me this morning - back to my School and Student years. A couple of Ten Years after albums to be followed shortly by Wishbone Ash.

Strangely, my favourite tracks nowadays from these albums ('Circles' and 'Religion') are not at all representative of Alvin Lee's work. My tastes have mellowed over the years. And now, streamed from FLAC
This album was never off the turntable in my University common room in the mid 70s. Brings back many happy memories.
Suzanne Vega "Nine Objects Of Desire"
The Temper Trap "Temper Trap"

Johnny Cash in top form.
Sonya Kitchell "Words Came Back To Me"
Speaking of album covers the US regulators modified...
A few years ago, Rolling Stone magazine put together its list of the 500 greatest songs ever. Number one was Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone. Which imo is correct.

Hi ewemon, I would be interested in the original MCA cat no's.
Graham.
Jeff Beck 'Blow by Blow' ripped to FLAC
followed by Steely Dan - hi-res download from Qobuz. I also have tis on CD an dcan't decide which mix I prefer - th emix is very different on some of the tracks.
Music is certainly a mood thing and right now I was in the mood for rock'n roll - which is taken care of by Foo Fighters. First up was "The Colour and the Shape" and now I'm listening to "Skin and Bones" Two great albums!
Shelby Lynne "Thanks" ep
