Tedeschi Trucks Band Live "Everybody's Talkin' ". A lovely and authentic live feeling to this album. Music is great, recording superb - what else can one ask for?

for a quiet evening...

Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 'Pastoral'.

A good friend recommended both the Klemperer and more recently Kleiber. I don't have a favourite from these two, they are both quite superb IMO.

Yesterday a near mint LP record of the 6th on the Decca orange label (1953 first release) of Kleiber conducting the Concertgebouw Orchestra arrived and it sounds wonderful. The subsequent Decca cd issue is also extremely good.

Both great. Both the real deal. No flim-flam with being other than utterly honest and direct with the music, and amazingly not all that similar as performances.

A diamond - like a great piece of music - has so many facets that no one single viewpoint can ever capture every point of depth or beauty, or profundity ... One moves the diamond about to discover ever more about its seemingly incomprehensible depths ...

Wonderful songwriter and performer - just don't listen to too many of his albums in one sitting or you will probably succumb to the depths of despair and depression.

Why?

I find LC songs about life , love , loss, and spiritual most up lifting .

This could be the antidote:

One of my favourite Sonata: No.3 in C Major.

It isn't as famous as others but maybe because it hasn't been over played to death.

Backhaus absolutely nails this lovely lyrical tunes communicating straight to the heart. No pretense. No obligatory drama. Just a frank conversation.

Actually, I do too - I guess I was just playing on his reputation. I have many of his albums, but I think my own favourite of his is the first of his albums I heard and purchased many many years ago

A really beautiful album with some truly wonderful songs

Thanks for the info' bishopla I wasn't aware of that but have enjoyed this SD boxset for years.

I have this set as well as all the individual remastered discs. To my ears at least the third CD of this set, which includes my favourite SD album, 'The Royal Scam', sounds better than the remastered individual album. In the case of all the other albums I think the remasters win.

If you want to best sounding ones get the original MCA discs. The later ones were all goosed don't sound anywhere near as good. If you want I can post the cat no's.

Hi ewemon,  I would be interested in the original MCA cat no's.

Graham.

Graham I slightly prefer the original Japanese 1st pressings but these below are as good. The prices for the Japanese versions can be through the roof.

Can't Buy A Thrill: MCAD-37040
Countdown to Ecstasy: MCAD-37041
Pretzel Logic: MCAD-37042
Katy Lied: MCAD-37043
The Royal Scam: MCAD-37044
Aja: MCAD-37214
Gaucho: MCAD-37220

They are all made in Japan for the US market but look out for the Plaid Artwork on the back as that means they are early discs.

However the Japan for Euro discs were as good.

I will need to dig out the Euro cat no. as I don't have them to hand.

I have 2 or 3 copies of most of the titles lying around the house as I have a complete set of the Japanese discs so the others I have are spares.

By the way I am hearing really good things about the latest Japanese SHM Sacd of Countdown to Ecstasy so the Platinum SHM might be as good however I haven't heard it so can't offer an opinion on it.

Graham I was going to post that those with a cat no starting 311 are usually fine as well
