An unreserved recommendation if you don't know this.

Starting with this. CD ripped
Because I needed some R-O-C-K this on VERY LOUD. Who needs a bunch of amateurs like the Ramones?

24/96 stream. This puts a smile on my face!
Laura Veirs "Carbon Glacier"

CD ripped. I really like her music. All 4 CDs I have are wonderfully recorded.
Michael Stanley "Michael Stanley"
his 1st release approx. 1974
What a lovely album ! I didn't know her, thanks.
Iver, I guess you got your PhD in Woman Vocals by now ? Maybe you'd like to check out Francesca Blanchard on Bandcamp, she might be of interest to you.
24/96 stream. 1st listen
Greg Tannen is the brother of Steve Tannen who is part of the duo The Weepies with Deb Talan. All are great pop songwriters and singers in my opinion.
As an aside, Stuart Murdoch has apparently put together a three-part short film called "God Help The Girl". I believe at least parts of it can be seen at Pitchfork (a music website). I haven't taken the time to see what is there yet (will this weekend) but the stills are very similar to the cover of the music of the same title.
Hope you are doing well.

Thank you Jeff, I'll check them out.
I don't know the movies you're referring to (unless you're referring to the making of in 3 parts), but what I do know is that Stuart Murdoch has got a feature film to premiere today in Edimburgh ! Belle & Sebastian will play live on the occasion, and at least Catherine Ireton will sing with them. General release in the US starts September 12 (Seattle and Vancouver are listed, no mention of Portland yet). I guess you have a better chance than me to watch it in a proper theatre. I don't think the movie will find a distributor here. Check godhelpthegirl.com
The soundtrack features songs from the album, but they have been rerecorded by the cast, I think.
Did you ever search what the girls have been up to on their own ? Catherine Ireton has an EP released on Bandcamp and features in a compilation on the Hidden Trails label from Brighton (where she lives now apparently). She was in the band Elephant in Limerick before that, but I can't find anything from them save from the excerpt on her website (even the Claddagh Records shop from Dublin doesn't list them). Asya was in Smoosh (she's from Seattle), and now moved to Brooklyn and plays in Chaos Chaos (you'll find albums from both bands on Bandcamp). Alex Klobouk already sang with Belle & Sebastian before, but I don't know what she's up to now. As for the others I don't know.
How do you find Joe Henry's latest album ?
I'm doing well, thank you, and yourself ? I've somewhat lost track, but you don't mention your lovely CB system anymore in your profile ?

That would be a plan ! I admire Bill Frisell. It's one of those slingers who seem to be everywhere at the same time, playing all sorts of music with the same dexterity and poise. And his own albums are fantastic ! Playing Disfarmer now.
I hope he'll come once at the local jazz festival. Marc Ribot came this year, so there's no excuse !
I see you were in a mood for Molvær these days. Have you ever checked out Erik Truffaz ?
Scandinavia gave us quite some great nu-jazz in the '90s/'00s. Molvær, of course, but also Bugge Wesseltoft or Jimi Tenor. Good stuff.

Thanks for all the info, you are right I was referring to the 3 part "making of.......". Didn't realize it was a feature film. I just was looking at some of the individual singers yesterday - will explore further with your additional knowledge, thanks for all of that.
Love Joe Henry and for me the new one is terrific. I did not get on so well with "Reverie". Such a wonderful artist, always surprises me so few seem to know of him.
CB gear was sold, I really think it was in need of service and I found the costs of that daunting. Loved the idea of the all digital (to the output) Wadia gear and I have enjoyed it more than I expected. Even though it is low end of their catalogue, it is quality stuff. It just gets out of the way and plays the music.
Best to you, mOo

I love all of Michael's stuff. Having said that, it all is a bit similar, but he just keeps cranking out that great North Coast sound, exactly how it felt to be in the Cleveland area and be young in the Seventies. Youth, chicks, customized vans cruising the night streets, humidity, sweat, love, beers, weed and the euphoria of being young and care-free and naively immortal. The Choir, Eric Carmen, Adam Blessing, The Raspberries, Dragonwyck, Glass Harp, James Gang, etc. I am a completist and love the memories.
Recently, my faves would be Soft Addictions, Shadowlands, and a great covers album The Farrago Sessions (with an amazing Sweet Jane/Wichi Tai To medley). The most recent three are a bit of a trilogy - The Hang, The Ride, and The Job.
Damn' Jeff, I don't know (almost) any of them ! Now it will take me a couple of days to check them all out. That's why I'm so cautious showing up in this thread, I'm way too curious and then it costs me a fortune.
If it was your youth you just described, that must have been cool !
Jeff, you know that I managed to miss Joe Henry ?!!! Out of pure luck, I found that he was playing a 3 hours drive far from where I live. Unfortunately, I found that the day of the gig, and it was too late. Hell was I mad !!!
I guess he'll come back someday in 2074...

Yes, Maurice most all of the groups mentioned were from the Cleveland area in the Seventies. You might recognize Eric Carmen (had a number of hits) and Joe Walsh (Eagles) was the leader of the James Gang.
It was my early-mid twenties era, now I retire in two weeks.
More time for music.

My corollary story is missing an early gig by Crosby Stills Nash and Young at the Fillmore East the week before they appeared at the original Woodstock Festival because my friends outvoted me and we went to the New York Mets baseball game. I was mad then, makes me laugh now.

Great ! Happy retirement ! I hope you'll have plenty of time to do the things you love.
Best,
Maurice
