Startling dynamics and low distortion. Probably the best sounding 9th on record I have heard so far.

But his performance always leaves me cold. The best part on this set is the Chicago Chorus where the orchestra takes backseats. The power of chorus, even my system will never be able to duplicate the real time dynamics, is overwhelmingly beautiful.

Same, here, Kuma, my favorite 9th for a very long time. I preferred playing it on my Tandberg reel to reel tape recorder, avoiding the interruption of the vinyl flipping .

And herewith is the not singular advantage of iTunes.

No limit on the length for the section of music you want to listen to.

There is far more to this performance than great ensemble and playing, It manages that with ease, but there is a genuine affection for the music here that will invite even non-appreciators of Stravensjy. Now playing is the Symphony In Three Movements, which performance is as angular and almost unappealing as might be expected, and yet has a warmth that invites. A Titan of a recording...

Dear George

I suppose you are talking about this Testament release:

What about the Petrruschka suite - my favorite Stravinsky work?

Best regards

Totally different from the album before - still getting my head around it, which doesn't mean that I don't like it...

Ansermet's NINTH.

Skilfully directed and professionally presented but somewhat academic. There's nothing to fault but I get the feeling Dr. Ansermet is going down the score line item by line item with calculator in his hand following the exact markings and timing.

Sutherland gives a good shot but gasping for air after hitting the last high C. Short fast exit to the finale.
