100% agreed, simply a masterpiece!

Heifetz/Sargent Bruch Violin Concerto & Mozart Violin Concerto No.4.
Very intimate and this has a homebound feel. He's got the conversational approach that draws me in from the start. Remarkable he’s keeping the rhythmic pulse and moving the tune along but never feels hurried. All corners are nicely polished but the note is well defined.

His Mozart Concerto also has a fun casual feel to it.

On high res, sleek, perhaps too much

Prompted by an early post by Pat.  I do enjoy their darker and moodier side. Stunning album!

Hi Tony,

Excellent album.  This is the first album I heard.  Then I got hooked.

First listen.  Heard a track or 2 on the radio.  So far, liking what else is on the record.

Pat, I did hear Cure for Pain first through an ex girfriend but this one is my favourite. Sadly Mark had to leave us so soon but  his legacy lives on.

Field Mouse - Hold Still Life

More new (to me) music.  First listen.  Cool album.  Singer reminds me of someone.  On some songs she reminded me a little of Juliana Hatfield, others not at all.  This is going to bug me.

A live concert recording of Chopin and de Falla 2 moth prior to her death.

As usual she possesses such a lyrical sense of ease. Nose glides off her fingers.

Perhaps the piano does not have the most commanding presence but sweet disposition are found throughout the score. No sharp or angular corners. It's meek and weak for my taste and I don't think this is strong as her Mozart Concertos.

de Falla piece also feels an odd program choice for Haskil.

She continues on a low energy playing leaving me an impression of pastel coloured vista rather than hot blooded Spanish primary colours.

Guiomar Novaes is a better fit for De Falla's 'Nights in the Garden of Spains' over Haskil above.

She sets off the mysterious intro and continues on with magical aura. The orchestra has a 50's film noir  feel.

Novaes' style shows passion and quick moves as a temperamental latin siren. The orchestration so far well portrays a sense of danger and excitement of the night.

Young Emanuel Ax does Chopin.

Youthful and spirited. The orchestration is dramatic and lush providing a large backdrop for the piano for a nice contrast. Ormandy's sensible handling never overwhelms the soloist and always sympathetic. A touch cooler and less intimate than what I would like for a Chopin program but elegantly played with thoughtful phrasing.

I get the feeling Ax is really a *nice guy*.
