Hot blooded and full of raw human emotion pouring out of the keys like a temperamental artist having a hissy fit. Many *tricks* to keep me on the edge of the seat. A highly entertaining and intense Funeral March. Extremely heavy handed and Horowitz' creative interpretation in full force.

On vinyl.

I don't know what it is with these old masters, but as Horowitz,

he misses a few keys and not as clean of a playing as today's technically accomplished concert pianists.  Yet he's got the right spirit and flair and keeping just an impeccable sense of  timing.

Tender soft passage is reminiscing of a good time past. Kempff's whispering piano speaks louder than anyone.

Martha's B Flat Minor Sonata is spirited and vivid but perhaps lacking underlying sinister pessimism.

I also have the CD reissue of this album and by far the vinyl offers richter tonal shading and better rhythmic pulse.

Martha's Chopin Piano Concerto No.2 with Rostropovich as a conductor.

Martha enters like a lion who's looking for a prey. This is a piano leading presentation.

Not wanting to open a can of worms here but what do you think of the mono cd releases? Have you been able to compare them to the stereo remasters? I have neither so I am looking for experienced advice before taking the plunge. At the moment I am biased toward the mono and topping up from the white album onward in stereo.

Tom Petty & and The Heartbrakers' "Hypnotic Eye".  I quite like this album. No songs stand out in particular but they are all rather good. It's more like it's a good album because it presents a "sound" on the whole. It has a slower beat than their typical pop orientated songs.

I have only listened to it once but had exactly the same reaction as you.  I look forward to hearing it again as I enjoyed the entire album.  I consider Howard (BigH47) the TP & H most knowledgable listener here, curious what he thinks ?

I like his Liszt a bit more, this is for me a bit edgy...

Hi Steve

I've been looking round for a good version of this (my favourite classical) but haven't found one I'm happy with yet. How's this one?
