Josh Rouse "1972"
Tedeschi Trucks Band "Made Up Mind". Discovered this band in this thread. I really like the mix of southern rock, gospel and blues.

Mt. Wolf - Because it's actually one of the few modern indie-pop/electronic/vocal (what do you call it?) albums that seems to have been really well recorded. It has a great soundstage and sounds just lovely with my naim and Harbeth combo. I still need to track down a lossless version, running the iTunes file.
Division Bell on vinyl, maybe not my favourite PF album, but certainly very good and the vinyl is is a sonic delight.
A charity shop purchase of sounds from the birth of electric guitar, by one of the masters and his Mrs.
Les Paul and Mary Ford - Primo Collection
Two discs, double flavor. Gould playing the piano and the harpsichord (Handel).

This is a Gould recording that I haven't seen before, is it a new release? What is the recording quality like?
This album is in my top 5 for jazz. These guys redefined what trio jazz can be about and this album is an honest account of what they have been about.
Bert - did you ever get to see then live?

Because I just fancied a bit more Nickleback not having listened to them for a year or so.
Really enjoying this new one from Sir Robert. Very nice vinyl package and comes with CD too...
Time for some early prog (on original vinyl)

Bit of Garbage to start the evening. This certainly has some oomph.
Green Day. Warning. On Coke-bottle green clear vinyl pressed in 2014. Originally released in 2000. The vinyl sound is punchy fast and crystal clear with great transients. The top end is rolled-off and softer than the CD; more pleasing to my ears.

Vinyl, for a change of pace. Maybe a little too "pop" for my taste, but .....
Time for some classic blues/rock from the The Allman Brothers Band. From the 2CD set, great sound and ambiance.
Eagles. One Of These Nights. On vinyl from 1975. Inspired by the listening chain.
Beethoven string quartet no. 15 in A min Op. 132, Takacs Quartet
NS01 / NDS 16 bit 44.1kHz WAV
A pretty old CD this one on the Virgin label but the slight softness of the reproduction seems to suit this lovely early Genesis album.
1969 American Tour - Silly cover, bloody good music. Could not care less if it's mono or ster(ico) as long as the music is good and, as a live album, it's bloody brilliant!
Two discs, double flavor. Gould playing the piano and the harpsichord (Handel).

These are all Columbia studio recordings done in 1967 and 1968 with the exception of Handel's harpsichord suites which are from 1972. They were re-issued by Sony in 2012. The sound is pretty decent, quite typical to other Sony releases of Gould and the playing is just exquisite.
Revisiting his Chopin pieces.
Hugely dynamic opening with as if someone just poured cold water over my head. There is no blue overtones on his Chopin playing and rather has a sense of flamboyant and jazzy attitude. Horowitz like strong left hands bursts create excitement along the way. I can't quite pin point but in spite his improvisational style something seems to be missing. It is obvious that he's got the facility to execute flawlessly.
Horowitz once said; "all pianists good enough to play in public have about the same competence, and that is usually 95% of the job. The crucial 5% that sets you apart is personality. And if you have the wisdom to study and the luck to grow, perhaps you can achieve a personality quotient at 10%. The higher the percentage of that element the more you can project and the greater the magnetism of your art."
Every young new pianists I listen to I wonder how much staying power and the star quality they will have in my life time.
