and what better after some Frapp than a bit of Fripp.
Decca vinyl. Very relaxing as I do my emails.
I only went out with my dad as an adult four or five times, Steve, and one of those occasions was when we went to see Dud at the Albert Hall in the very early 90s. He - Dud, not my dad - was brilliant. We got three sets: a jazz trio set; a classical set with orchestra (inc Beethoven and Gershwin); and a comedy set in which he did some old Pete & Dud skits, plus pastiches like "Moonlight Sonata in the style Fats Waller"-type stuff. Brilliant pianist. What a pity he's no longer with us.
Would love to have seen that. I remember going with my Dad to see George Melly and his daughter which was very entertaining. It was a very small intimate venue in London but I can't remember where.
Dark Star "Graceadelica" single, C.D. 1 & 2.
LP - Get Back (p) 2010 Abraxas reissue : )
Really fabulous 1970 debut release from the fabulous Krautrock/Progressive/Jazz-fusion band, Embryo : )
Debs
Original Fontana vinyl. Another artist I went to see with my Dad when I was young. There was a very good 30 minute special on the life of Alexis Korner on BBC Radio London last week.
BAD MOON RISING SONIC YOUTH on compact disc
I was enjoying the acoustic bass on the Alexis Korner LP and discovered it's Danny Thompson who I always enjoyed with John Martyn.
And now for something completely different........................
No 1 for several weeks in the early 50's.
I especially like ".......over the mountains, over the the seas....."
After watching a very good Joni documentary on Sky at the weekend...
Original vinyl
Time for some more Hawkwind "Quark Strangeness and Charm" on Atomhenge double c.d. reissue.

Debs
Debs - if you are enjoying Opal you really should check out We Keep On, Father Son and Holy Ghost, and Embryo's Rache which followed that release in the early 70s. For me they are better records and a fascinating insight into another early Krautrock band.
Wah-Wah records from Barcelona in Spain did a limited pressing of 500 of each of those titles, and I did a brief review of We Keep On on Kuma's fab vinyl re-issue thread in March 2012. I will try to post a link here (but I am pants at this technical stuff, so apologies if it doesn't work):

Do checkout Wah Wah records. I bought from them directly with no issue at all and the gatefold sleeves and record were all really good quality, and not too expensive. Their site feels clumsy but don't be put off. And they have an amazing list of secondhand LPs to boot, and some real rarities in there. Discogs might have some Embryo Wah Wah pressings available too.
The Wah Wah Embryo pressings are good - I don't know about other label issues in comparison. We Keep On is my favorite. Charlie Mariano plays sax on it, and he is top class. Used to play with Mingus.
Cheers

Danny has made a lot of records with Richard Thompson too. Excellent he is too, he has quite a distinctive style, but I don't like his solo stuff too much.
Check out Songhai by Ketama another Danny collaboration.
On vinyl. First spin.

David,
thanks for the interesting reply : )
I've had a look on the wah-wah site, i see what you mean about clumsy, i can't seem to download anything from them or find out what they have in stock! Although the picture of their shop is very attractive, would love to jump on a plane and fly out there for some Barcelona retail therapy. Be a bit warmer out there too, than around these damp and chilly parts...
Debs
Steve Miller. Fly Like an Eagle. On vinyl from 1976. Because my son came home playing "Take The Money and Run" on his little blue-tooth Bose thingy.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The Heist. On CD from 2012. Because my son stores his CDs with mine. Not my genre but I can appreciate Macklemore's talent. Glad I listened to it .
The Beatles. Let It Be. On purple label Capitol vinyl from 1979. Originally released 1970.
