A superb album full of a wonderful sense of humour imho.
"Three For All' features the trio of saxophonist Dave Liebman, bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Adam Nussbaum. Each of the musicians contributed compositions and the balance of the programme is made up with jazz classics from the likes of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. On these classics the trio adopts the same unhurried approach as with its own material. 'Three for All' is an album that's so inherently cohesive, it almost passes by unnoticed. But its staying power rests in the greater depth it reveals with each successive listen.
(For those on Spotify you can install a 'Blue Note' app to discover all of Blue Note's back catalogue.)
When alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley culled together this quartet, he grabbed three champions from seemingly disparate schools to complement his flinty solos: Miles Davis, the king of cool; Art Blakey, the thundering force of hard bop; Hank Jones, a veteran of swing; and Sam Jones, a versatile bassist adaptable to nearly any setting. The results are one of Blue Note's most beloved albums. The open-ended beauty of "Autumn Leaves," which features Davis beautifully stating the melody on muted trumpet, sounds like it could easily be an outtake from Kind of Blue (which it isn't). The midtempo title track provides the centerpiece of this classic as Adderley echoes Miles's swaggering melody before both unravel wonderful solos. A must-have Blue Note album. --John Murph.

Graham,
I have quite a few Doxy LPs in my collection and can say they are all fantastic pressings [ very well made records] ...but the recordings on them vary from stupendous to horrendous, but with most being fair to middling.
Doxymusic seem to be oblivious to how superb or horrid a recording is, and simply get on with putting it on their lovely pressed LPs.
Maybe at the Doxymusic record factory they have expert record pressing engineers who are all stone deaf.
I’ll join you with the Sonny Rollins LP : )

I don't know that one but it is on Spotify so I'll give it a spin in the next few days. Thanks.

They are apparently just copy commercial CDs to vinyl according to Micheal Fremer on Analogue Planet. This would explain the very variable SQ. They are an Italian outfit who are using an EU copyright loophole to release these LPs and they don't have access to any master tapes.

Phillips Flying Dutchman vinyl 1969. A true Blues Supergroup. Recorded just before the untimely death of Otis Spann from lymphoma.
Ah !
I was listening to "The White Album" - well, both of them, one after the other.
But then I realised that ALL the albums in the box have White sleeves.........

Hi Steve.I found this on the inter - web...
"Doxy Records was founded in 2005 by Sonny Rollins to enable him to take full control of the means of production and distribution of his music for the first time in his lengthy career. To date he has released one studio album (Sonny, Please) and two volumes in an ongoing series of live recordings called Road Shows, as well as a DVD of a concert in Vienne, France. Rollins intends to record a studio session for the label in the coming year".
Do you think its the same Doxy records?
Regards Graham
Paul Bley's contribution to contemporary/modern jazz is incalculable. I normally listen to the utterly sublime Open to Love, but I do have a bit of a soft spot for this little gem. I'm not too familiar with Jesper Lundgaard but on this he plummets to the lower depths of bass emotion, in a good way.
On CD:-
Streaming while testing / comparing a Powerline in the system.
All FLAC ripped CDs except for Goldfrapp's "Tales Of Us" which was a 24 / 96 download .

I doubt it Graham. Look on Analogue Planet and the Hoff forum.
Not one of my top Floyd albums but enjoyable nonetheless.
