What could be finer than a nice glass of red and a little bit of Dexter on a Saturday evening

A 2014 release from Not Now Music which sounds mighty fine on a nice pressing for £10 from Diverse.

A newly purchased CD on the basis of a recommendation from dayjay's missus.  Only my first listen but I must say this could be my favourite Tori Amos album to date. Mind you I have yet to unwrap and listen to the other recommendation: "...from the choirgirl hotel" .   I do love Tori's use of backing piano.

Lol, Dayjay's missus is chuffed. Made us laugh. Glad you like the album

Inspired from earlier post.

Marc-Andre Hamelin's Chopin isn't doing it for me even with repeated listening.

Too soft and benign. Overdose of sugar.

Tempo is a lot slower than most anyone I have heard but it's not doing anything or worse, sounding even more sluggish and out of timing since the way he tells story isn't compelling enough.

Apologies for drifting off topic, thought you might appreciate this.  The 'missus' and Tori outside Liverpool Empire in 98.

Try Strange Little Girls, Tori's album of covers. I love it. As her career has progressed, I've liked her stuff less. Me And a Gun has not been surpassed - to see her sing it live years ago was just so moving.

I realise it is off topic dayjay but they look the best of mates or even sisters!

Nice.

Interesting recording, side A is 45 rpm, Side B is 33.3 rpm.  Used disk, cleaned up nicely and sounds very very good. Great groove to the disk.

Cheers HH. I've added those two to my list.

Love Pollin's later interpretation of Chopin pieces. Not so gun ho or puppy love like in his youth. He's digging much deeper into the music.

Opulent and flowing but never sappy or over fragrant.  A streamlined elegance beautiful melody making. A touch Schubertian but a stronger sweet moving melody line assures this is very Chopin. It is terribly melancholic but due to Pollini’s clarity and precision on every note tunes never get sentimental.

His Nocturnes by far my favourite. ( till further notice )

Nice one, day jay. That must be a treasured photo. A 'selfie' well ahead of its time, perhaps?

After we watched the BBC documentary about Percy this seemed appropriate:-

Yes, it was a good day. We'd had a few drinks and the roadies tipped us off what time she was sound checking. I'm not sure Tori had much choice to be honest but she was very nice and it made my wife's day
